I can only catch mine if I drain my pond and then net them and keep them in the water in the net and then try to get them into a fish safe bag which I learned from a video here on Koiphen. :)

For small fish I use a seine and a net. I use the seine to corral them and use the net to maneuver them to the tub or bag. Large fish I just use the net.
I sometimes use a koi sock for smaller fish.
Sorry no pics.

what is a koi sock ?
I use a big net and then transfer them to a bowl, then either a sock or a bag...depending on where they are going.
I`m afraid in my new pond I might have to seine...since I usually do this by myslef:rolleyes:

In this hobby you need a flat 26 to 30 inch diameter round net. And a good sock net. My sock net holds water and I use it to transport my Koi in and out from their winter home in my basement. I even carry my 30 inch fish in it with little resistance. They are submerged in water and its dark.

If you have not bought your net yet buy the biggest you can find. My first net was a 21" net. My koi outgrew it in the second year. I now have a 31" I bought at Mystic Koi and it is a humdinger. I myself would not use a koi sock on fish over 24" for fear of a spine injury or clumsy me dropping it. A koi sock with fish and water in it is heavy especially with your arms spread out to almost 3 feet. With large koi I bag them in the pond and get help getting the bag out of the pond. I'm now looking for a large rectangular blue tub for taking photos. I have a very large round one that is from Wm Lim but now it is to small to measure and take pics in.

I think I will have the same issue - as my pond has grown to 15 x 16 cos of landslides - i think seining might have to be the way to go !!
Any good sources for these ?

Stephen,
Here is the link to the net selection page of Aquatic Eco-Systems. They have the lowest prices I've found for seines with "soft" netting.

Stephen,
When you come to the harvest you will get to see all of the mentioned nets and see some netting techniques. I have a couple of the 30" "Smart" nets here as well as a couple sock nets and seines. :)

Stephen, you might check with Gene about the seine. I think Memphis net and twine is the company. Ive seen them mentioned before, but AES may have a better price. I could use one also. My pond is a bit on the wide side (14.5') and it can be killer to catch them with a pole net. David Smothers tells me I have to get in.
Last fish I netted, I wore it out...before I netted it...it was visibly tired. Im ashamed to say how long it took me. I know that is not the best thing to do, but....

Sunday Ray Jordan will be showing our club how to catch koi for transport to a show. He will use my pond and my koi (12" to 30"). The pond is odd shaped, 6ft wide one end and 16ft middle and 10ft wide at the end. Only two sides have a walkway, Pond is 5ft deep.
