Just wanted to share with everyone my (beginner's) attempt to raise these guys.

My bunch spawned March 4, 5 and 6. The frys now rage from 1/4-1 inch.

Ohh...can someone help me id the parents? I'm pretty illiterate with the names.

Here are some more parents and their babies...just some (still probably 1000+).

yet another question: as i'm sitting here typing, i hear a toad croaking. Will it eat the frys?

Yes, remove the toad. Be sure you have plenty of o2, and daily water changes!

Was it a group spawn?

Looks like you have a few types of fish any chance of posting their pics individually.

Yes, it was a group spawn but selected. I took out about 10+ (individual pictures will be posted soon) and took them to the shallow part of the same pond. The pond is divided into four sections. I think that was a mistake--the whole pond turned brown as a result. Is it due to nitrite, nitrate and ammonia from the spawn?.

Here is my attempt to name them:
1. Red with black going down its back: Shusui
2. All yellow: Yamabuki Ogon
3. White butterfly: ?
4: Mostly red including head plate with a little white (3rd picture): Kohaku
5. Same picture: ?
6. Black, white and a little orange: Utsuri Showa?
7. 5th picture: ?
8, 9,10 and others(not pictured): 1st picture--top, far right and bottom (all of them are red/black/white): Showa, Doitsu, Sanke, or just mutts?

Nevertheless, better pictures will be up soon.

Several frys that has been interesting to me are the gray with a black head plate (1st picture of frys). Will it retain this color or will it continue to develop over the next few months, or will it become a tancho? And will the fry with black markings running down it's back develop into a shusui or other variations?

Here are some Tobies I just found...I wonder how much frys they've engulfed.:muffy:

I was bored so I scooped up a few other frys (they sure are hard to catch now--so quick). Are any of them candidates as keepers?

Just wanted to share how much they've grown. Here are some random pictures of them eating.

yeah...the water is really green, and i'm having an algae problem. my filter system isn't that good. any suggestions?

the only filtration is about 400lbs of lava rock. the pond is about 10,000 gallons (just a guess).
