Sixteen days ago we spawned two of our Thai Orandas. We really wanted to get fry from this pairing as they are both great fish. Havent figured out where we are going to go with all these babies, especially with the coupla hundred ryukin we still have but we are havin' fun. :D:
This short video is the result of that spawn.....:D:

it isnt that hard... finding the room for them is the hard part. We recently had a pair of pearlscales spawn. Never had pearlies spawn before and got real excited about it. We put the mops in a ten to hatch, got TWO babies. It was as much work as TWO hundred for those two pearlies but we wanted to try to keep them so we did it. They sure are cute tho. It's what we do. :D:

Thanx....... Here is a video of the rest of them taken with our other camera. Lighting is obviously much better in the living room. There must still be a coupla hundred fish in this tank. At the end are the two baby pearlies that hatched a while ago.

Very good video! The baby pearlies are so cute!
Where did you find your sponge filters?
BruceP

Nancy... sponge filters are available everywhere. Fosters and Smith has a real good selection. I'll get you a link if you want it.

I honestly don't know!
But realistically, we end up with very few fish from a spawn. Genetic defects run high and I think it is because they are FREAKS to begin with.. LOL
Lookin good guys. Those fat little pearl scales always shock me at first because if I saw something like that in my tank it would be dropsy. :eek1:
Keep up the good work with the little FREAKS. :D:

Bruce, what are you feeding? and how many times a day?
BruceP
02-17-2010, 05:37 PM
Hikari First Bites and brine shrimp is the first thing they get. Then I add Ken's Premium Micro Pellet (54% protien), Omega Kelp Flakes, and Decapscillated Brine Shrimp. When they are big enough, like now, I add Blood Worm and small Goldfish Pellets from Omega One. I vary this somewhat and dont usually give them all of those at one time. Four to Six times a day. I think I'm going to concentrate on giving them alot of blood worm as JP says its good for wen developement. This is for oranda babes as other types may get different food.
All our adult fish get various Omega One Products as we find they are high quality products.

Bruce have you posted pics of the parents some place?
BruceP
02-18-2010, 07:23 AM
I thought I had posted them already, sorry. They both were brought into the country by Ranchumaniax directly from Thailand. The orange was the mama, very nice confirmation and finnage. She dropsied not long after spawning and died.
"Splash" is the man! Red head and wild... lol He got his name because he has splashed water out of the tank onto Lari's laptop.... twice! Each time resulting in a keyboard replacement..DOH! He is about all one would want in an Oranda :)

About 8 weeks old now; time for an update. Still have 4-500 of these little wigglebutts. Havent seen alot to cull yet but I usually don't cull this size because I just can't see the faults when they are this little, 1/2 to 1". Took some pix this morning so you could see where we are at with them.

Thanx nygold.... they are eatin machines right now. Running out of tank space for them. Most of the pix are some that I stuck in a 30 gal. tank we have set up for breeding albino longfin bristle nosed plecs. Plecs arent happy with their new guests. lol As they grow I keep trying to spread them out and cull but they are are a bit small for serious culling. At least for my eyes to cull. :)

Oh wow :surprise:
Super cool. Looks like a petstore fishtank.
When abouts do they start developing wen?
BruceP
03-08-2010, 09:16 AM
Im not sure about the wen. I think it is in the genetics as to when it developes and it varies alot. I have a couple from LAST summer that are just now getting wen but Ive seen others (not ours) that have nice wen at only 3-4 months. Climate may have a bearing on wen growth as well.

Fantail goldfish of any type are SO cute! Wigglebutts exactly! Nice healthy sheen to their scales, very fun watching these guys grow up via the net... almost like being there... almost.
I had to put my little WB Wakin into the living room pond, too big for the brandy bowl now. At least he has a buddy in there, a sarasa from walkin parents. I will miss him in the AM doing his WB dance for food before I head off to work... but won't miss cleaning that bowl.
