Wouldn't the koi have to cary all the characteristics of asagi to be called asagi? In the definition of asagi it states hi on the fins, gill plates and below the lateral line.
ps---------im must asking? learning?

Yes, but the "best" Asagi don't start getting their beni until they are 4 or 5 years old. This is according to Shoichi Hosokai and he bred some pretty amazing Asagi.

it is hard to tell from the pic if there is metallic sheen or not...it looks as though there is some in the body on the second pic...

hi thanks for the replies keep them coming

as requested a few pics of the shiro for you
she was bought this year and was from cuttlebrook koi here in the uk
cuttlebrook fish are winning more and more at koi shows and have rapidly become a good english breeder of koi
she is about 17/18 inches
pics were taken after a long journey so she was a little stressed
also bought at the same time was this shusui i know its not fully zipped but i love the way the beni wraps up symetrically at the shoulders

the best asagi i saw looked like a saragoi until 3 yrs old, then started to develop the beni. it was a really amazing koi at 5 yrs.
