      Question Multicyclone 50 solids separator

Does anyone have one of these on there pond or..... are able to give some info on how well they work???

Are they worth the $350 price tag??

Yes they are GREAT filters when used properly. I only recommend you use them after a sieve filter or similar pre-filter b/c they can only handle the smallest of particles. Here is a thread that goes over some detail of the filter and how it should be used...
      https://www.koiphen.com/forums/showth...Zakki-Products

By the way $350 is a very good price for the filter.

How small are you talking Zac? It says anything from 20-100microns. It would defeat the purpose of me purchasing it if I still had to put a seive infront of it.
I still would like to get your Zakki Seive......I saw this and 350 sounded better than 1300? Not knocking any of your products at all Zac....just was hoping to save some money.
Your not planning on having any sales any time soon are ya???

Yep they are great, but ONLY after sieve as Zac saids. But they do take a lot of your pump presure. What you call head?

I figured it would. A new pump would prolly need to be purchased as well if I went this route. When I first started thinking of purchasing Zac Seive, I figured I'd loose alot of pressure just by adding that to my filter set-up.

I'm running a 5500gph pump right now on a 3000gl pond. What size of pump would I have to go up to with both the Zakki Seive and the cyclone 50??

Sorry but that falls into just too good to be true You should not use it alone! If it is used along side of the Zakki Sieve then you can directly pump to a shower filter and not worry about the extra particles going into the shower media.

Depending on the static head heights before/after the sieve/pump/MC50 combo it would change the pump required. The sieve max's out at 4500 gph so if you want that kind of flow you need at least a 1/3 hp primer pump.

I loose about 2000 liters for each 10000 liter I pump through. But they are worth the loss, and so easy to clean.

I just bought three last week but have not installed them yet. They will go after the 200 micron sieves. I think Jim got one with Zac's Jr sieve and he is loving it.

I am using the 1700rpm range on my pump with the Zakki Jr to the MC 50 to a custom Zakki shower. I am flowing just over the max on the sieve and as Tom said, I am loving it. The filter is working great. The head on the MC50 is 2ft. My pond is clearer than its ever been. Once the sieve is placed in front, the MC50 should collect 100% of particles over 60 microns. Down to the 20 micron level its effctiveness is around 30%. Zac posted in another forum that without the sieve the MC50 would clog and/or fill too fast. He was nice enough to show a dissassembled filter for visual reference in it as well. I can literally dump my MC-50 every day and get a lot out, don't have to do it but I can. I am going to test it at the end of the month while on vacation to see how well it runs while I am out of town for a week with no cleaning. My pond is a little smaller than yours and probably just as over stocked in relation of fish to gallon. I was hesitant on the pricing of it all together a bit myself, but I am more than happy with the results.

For those that already got a sieve, this will be a very nice addition.

I think the sweet spot is around 70-80 GPM.

I was wondering how it would handle not being dumped after several days if left unattended.
      Looking forward to a report.

I need to give Zac a call for a little one on one.

It will work just fine for a week without cleaning. Some of the trapped debris will start to dissolve but it would be no different than if you had a bead filter after the sieve and only cleaned it once a week. As long as you use it after a sieve then it will never clog unless the entire sediment chamber gets filled with debris which would take a very long time or a SERIOUSLY dirty pond.

Just to add to this a bit more, here are a few pictures. I flushed my MC-50 around 4pm yesterday and just did it around 9am. This is on a 2000g pond at roughly 5000gph. Also note that my center column is gray and has debree that sticks to it a bit due to algea. My UV is coming soon and I will see how that effects the MC-50. The first shows the size of fines that are being removed, clumped together of course. The second is the bucket after a flush (under 4g to flush). Third is the filter after a flush, and the last two are before it has been flushed. If I can get the video up I will post it shortly.
