To me from the body to the tail seems pinched. Not really a thin tail tube but just a bad transition on left side. I'm kinda thinking this fish might have a vagina also. Has grown more than my definite males
Water was cold so this fish got cut from food for like 7 days. You can see the belly on the koi and also the fish seem more along the lines of a female. I'm really thinking this a young female. Breeder was koda and the sumi was very light upon purchase which is what I felt was best.

Hey Kevin, you're going to need to provide a better pic if you want a critique. Impossible to say much from the angle shot you provided. Impossible to gauge what the other side looks like. Did you tilt it in that bowl? If so, fill up the bowl enough to let the koi rest naturally and wait for a good shot.
A lot of what you commented as your critique doesn't make sense to me. You mention a bad transition on one side but the pic doesn't allow for a comparison to the other side which is necessary. Another point was you said it's pinched but not a thin/weak tail. You gotta walk me through that one.
Did you happen to see the link I provided FRK the other day on his Showa critique thread?
I will try to provide a better pic. I did take a video but it taking forever as i shot in 4k.
Didn't mean to critique my own fish but just saying what I thought. I'm perfectly fine getting corrected on what i was wrong about
Oh and yes i did see the frk post. marilyn you are truly awesome and I apprexciate your help

Oh and yes I did slightly tilt the bowl a lot opps. I was trying to be quick with pics etc since i didn't want to stress the new addition out to much

Thanks Kevin, I'm simply providing a path to information that was very helpful to me when I was new to the hobby.
I wasn't trying to correct you as much as understand what you meant by your comments. To me, a bad transition into the tail area is hard to do without it being a conformation or health issue. This koi doesn't seem unhealthy so my inclination in interpreting what you said is that it is likely a conformation issue. That is where that article can come in handy. It not only discusses the appearance of the koi from the top but also from the side.
I'll pass on a trick I learned in an art class long before I knew about koi. Change your perspective to simplify analysis.
When you are considering a koi, look at it from tail to head. Look at a koi swimming away from you. It's a simple way trick yourself into forgetting about pattern and makes true conformation evaluation much easier. We humans have our favorites and tendencies and our brains get used to seeing things we want to see and forgiving things perhaps we shouldn't when considering new additions. In the art class we were evaluating the balance and symmetry in Renaissance paintings.
Well said as always. This fish actually had 2 spots that looked very much like an encysted parasite. the one spot went away and the other is almost gone today. weather is warmer now so i willl do what is needed.

The trick you shared is a weakness I have as well as many others. again thanks for the help M

I bowled this fish more just to check on it..while I took pics and video figured might as well critique it.
Im still sticking with tancho showa here
I'm so new at this I usually don't participate in a critique. But trying to study up as much as I can. And I'm going to toss out a guess that the Sumi you have is pretty much all your going to get. I am like Okoifan and like to see more Sumi and I did read an article that said Showa should have all three colors on the head even Tauncho Showa.
This koi seems to have a belly and might be female. The pinched area i saw in pic might have been more a transition from the belly to the tail. This fish will be sold and not to bad for "pond" grade
