      Most Efficient Pond Pump

Hello Koiphen Members, I am going to make a few changes to the pond this summer and the big one is looking at my pond pump. It is way to large for my 1,800 gallon pond (Artesan 2 7600 gph) and I am looking at a smaller, more efficient, self priming pump in the 4-5,000 GPH range. The filtration is all above ground Sieve, bead filter , heater, UV. Being above ground by up to three feet, I do have some head loss, thus the larger pump size.

I wanted to get some opinions on what the best pump and most efficient pump would be?
I would ten sell or exchange the two Artesan 2 7600 GPH pumps I have today.

I was thinking of the advantage ESS5200 1/4 HP 5200GPH ESS SERIES 115 VOLT PUMP as one potential option

I like the Artesian 2 pumps , I’ve never had one fail . Stick with an Artesian 2 smaller pump , and You should be able to sell those two big pumps easily.

I agree and will look at the 1/4 Hp self-priming Artesian pump as my 1/3 Hp unites have been absolutely trouble free. I will sell the two larger 1/3 Artesian 2 pumps and buy the smaller one.

I had a question on self-priming. How long can the self-priming pump suck air before it catches and pumps water for above ground application like behind a Zakki Sieve?

For your area only 10 to 11 dollars a month savings. That's looking at one 1/3 hp pump vs one 1/4 hp. It will take years to pay off the switch. Just use a valve to limit flow slightly.

Self priming pumps are better off being primed as much as possible.

The Zacci should be filled with water first , they have a large volume of area , and I wouldn’t want the pump to run dry for the amount of time that it would take to draw water through the Zacci.
I agree with BWG , I figured You had the bigger pumps , dropping from 1/3 hp to 1/4 hp would not be worth it .
Are You currently using both pumps ? If You are , how about repiping and using only one .

Fair enough, I will keep the pumps that I have and close the valves a bit more.. With the Zakki sieve and self priming pump, the issei's is if I have a power blip and am not at home, the pump will not prime the entire zaikai shower and the pump can run dry for what can be quite some time

Isn't that what check valves are supposed to prevent?

Yea , Your Zacci shouldn’t drain back when the power goes out

Then, my check vales are not likely functioning properly. I will look at replacing them this summer

Any way to reconfigure the system to run on one pump?

They should change the name of self-priming pumps to will only prime when pump is filled with water.

Already capped off one port and reduced down to one pump. Might put the MC-50 back in the system to add a touch of medium particle filtration before the bead filter and to eat up some of the flow
