      Brad's Ai goromo

I'm not sure what I can show after today until they come out of the mud on October 10th, but here is what I got.

      Ai Goromo from Sakai
      12" Nisai female

This one just calls to me... a bit thin but a nice big fish pattern.

I think, what you're seeing, is the Ai coming up through the beni. That is the beginning of the "robing" becoming visible.

That was my guess also, that we are are starting to see the robing. All I have to go on is the one picture, so not 100% sure. Maybe Russ will jump in.

Sorry for the delay reply on my part, in Singapore and working long hours.

I got home about 8:30 last night and it was already dark, so these are not the best shots. In fact I was trying to hold the flash light enough to be able to take pictures with fish in it.

My Ai Goromo went from 12" to just over 16" and is starting to show some of the robing. WOW... this a nice Goromo.

I also took two flock spawn babies as projects. A clean Benigoi and a real decent Hi Showa. There is alot of crap in this water, so you'll have to take my word that the benigoi really is a clean one. It was fun talking with all my fish friends about these babies, wonder if we will be right. These guys are not that big, but you can see the quality already. The beni looks orange at a distance, but up close the center of the scales are much deeper.... they just came out of the mud, so the beni will turn dark before long.

An Ai goromo is a kohaku whose beni scales have a blue edges to them. The dark blue edges come in when they are 2, 3, or 4 years old and are called robing. The longer it takes for the robing to come is usually a good sign of how long it will stay nice.

Hope that helps. Maybe somebody can explain it better than I just did.

Here is a real nice shot taken by Jessie. I think those are Russ' hands and this is it just coming out of the mud pond. (I could be wrong on the hands).

Here are some shots of this ai goromo that were taken today. I moved her to my main pond this morning, so it was a good time for some new photos...

She has some secondary beni coming in along the lateral line, more the left side that right, but both sides. I don't think this secondary beni will stay forever, but it might be there for a year or two.

On the left side you can see the robing is just starting to come in. The nose has a pock mark that happened (I think) at the Ikeage... seems to be closing up so not worried about it.

I also pictured the flock spawn babies I brought home from the Ikeage. They are staying in the QT for now. Both Dan and I snagged a couple Russelgoi and we promised to post progress pictures.

For the pending size question, the sharpie marks in my bowl are one inch apart. Just find a shot with the fish strait and marks showing, then use a scrap piece of paper to make a ruler.

This is a Hi Showa with some potential. There is a sprinkling of white on the sides that may or may not stay with this one to maturity... Hoping not, but we'll see.

This the second Russelgoi I brought home. It's either a benigoi or an Orenji (hope benigoi). It does have some white on it's side, again hoping it will fill in with age.

Brad, I was wondering if you could explain to me where the blue eye shadow come from?

I have a Platinum Ogon that has the blue eye shadow.
