      New pics of Sunfire.

First flowers of the year. The light colored flower is a new phenomenon that just started this year. I don't know if it's cause it's a first flower from a new crown or a sport. probably not a sport, very rare. I wish it was a sport so it would be continuous and reproducible.

      Sunfire

It is registered as Sunfire and was a deliberate cross but I'm not sure who was the pollen parent.

I actually really like the light flower and the contrast next to the darker one. Pretty!

Now That looks nice. The snapping turtles eat them really bad here. If I had room for a mud pond I would put hardies in it like you have done there.

Gander, put circular cages made out of 2x4 fencing around a few odorata plants like Mayla. Make the cages about 4 or 5 ft. in diameter. Use 4 ft. high fencing, 15 ft will make a roughly 5 ft. dia. cage. Lay the fence section on the ground flat, find the mid point and from there start bending or cutting 2 triangular sections in order to compensate for the slope of the pond shore. If your not following me imagine a cylinder of fence like you would put around a compost pile or a tomato cage. If you set this cylinder on a slope the top will not be level with your water unless you cut or bend either the top or bottom of the cylinder. If you bend the top it's more unsightly, and if you cut the top it's unsightly and dangerous. If you bend or cut the bottom there's no problem and the fence top with its factory edge just below the high water line to prevent turtle access is at least safe.
The most important thing is that the odorata lilies will have enough protected space so it will be able to have enough leaf area to produce leaves that will grow out of the cage and feed the turtles all they want and more. Once you get enough of these cages in a pond to satisfy your turtles judging by the leaves that grow unmolestested out side the cages then you can remove the cages and every thing will be fine, No matter how many turtles you have. I know, I have LOTS of big snappers and red ear sliders. And really very little turtle damage. Nothing you would notice. Except for Laydekery Fulgens. Turtles LOVE!!! IT. I need a big bed of it to keep ahead of them. It is by FAR their favorite of all the lilies I have, hardy or tropical.
