I am pond building now and will have a small bog and small waterfall. Do the roots disturb your rocks or liner in any way? I really like the floating island of impatiens and may try that since I have the pond part finished and would love some color in there. I have seen that people use insulation board and drill holes to drop the impatiens into, has anyone else seen this and does it work?

I have never had the roots of Impatiens, Sunpatiens, Lirope, Sweet Flag, or Vinca to disturb my rocks or liner.
      I haven't tried a floating planter.
Best of luck on your pond build.

Thanks gray cat. I'm excited to try the flowers on the nooks and crannies of my pond.

Snapped a few pics today of the impatiens in the stream. I only planted five, and they've almost taken over the edges of the stream. I have no idea where the frogbit came from in that first pic, but it apparently found a quiet spot to lurk in spite of the moving water.

My Impatiens have Downey Mildew Disease. I am not surprized, just let down that they are dying now. I checked this evening and my pics show what I found.

In pics 1 & 2 you can see the white mildew on the underside of the leaves.
In pics 3 & 4 you can see where the leaves are starting to curl and turn yellow.

I will be pulling them out of the stream tomorrow.

      The Sunpatiens are doing well.

Sorry to hear that, Nancy. I was hoping that you could escape that this year.

Rats! I was hoping for the best. When it does appear, is it the same time each year? I ask because your gardens are about a week or so before ours. I will be watching for it.

Seems it is always around the end of August. I hope yours will be fine.

Before, I always enjoyed mine in Sep. thru end of Oct. or the first of Nov. before the first frost. They would grow huge by then. I miss those days.

I found out that you cannot put sunpatiens in the sun in Florida. The two I put in the sun, even though well-watered, just dried up and collapsed. Oh well.

Here are the sunpatiens I have in my upper stream. Doing very well and getting bigger. If like the last two years, they will do well until the first hard frost.

It has been 6 days since I found Downey Mildew Disease on the Impatiens. I have left them alone. Going to have a dinner here on Sunday and at least from a distance the blooms still look pretty.

Monday, I plan to take them all out, bag them up and in the trash they will go. I will not put them into my lawn & leaf cart.
I will post some pics on what they look like right before I pull them out.
I enjoyed them while they lasted.

Anyone have any pics to share?
