Wow, a year later and things haven't changed, nor why I left this thread. Still having this same routine. I can tell you all that if you have an anoxic filter, plus a Birdman special sand gravel filter and a Kent Wallace indoor shower filter the water quality is freaking amazing and easy to keep, even when I am only home once a month and wifey has to keep adding water and feeding for me without maintaining the filters. Unfortunately my pond does not give anything as far as yes it works or no it does not, but we have 0 water quality issues. And it is amazing to watch all of those plants grow indoors. I can't say I don't do water changes either because it takes me about 300 to350 gallons of water to clean the SG filters and another several to drains the Settlement Chamber. I can say that the plants we have repotted absolutely do not have a rotted material stench when we dig into the baskets though.

Sarah, good to see you on here too

      Hi Tracy,

Nice to see you on the forum!

In the interest of maintaining civility, I have not been commenting a lot within this thread, as things got a bit contentious (as you noticed!) I don't think anyone will get too offended, however, if I am mainly catching up with you.

With a (Birdman) SG filter, a (Kent Wallace) shower filter, and the "anoxic filter" baskets with plants growing in them -- wow -- I would say that you have seriously bio-filtered that indoor pond! I am glad that it is working out for you, and that you are doing well. Maybe -- if you get time -- you can post some photos?

I hope we manage to stay in touch.

Wow. This thread is Still Going strong!!! No doubt this system works.

But it doesn't make money so guess it will always get slated.

Ok, let me all fill you in on my situtation.
I had to move house in june last year. Since then ALL my fish have been in a 3m (9.5ft) Show Pond.
      =/- 6000 liters. 1580 us gal.

Two BD's to a 220L , 58 gal , Drum as a settlement chamber. There are brushes in it.

This overflows to the bottom of another Drum (220l/58gal). this is filled plastic shavings and plastic bottle tops in onion bags.
      50/50.

I have two pumps pulling from the top of the Drum.
One goes through my UV and back to the pond, flow rate is around 4000l per hour.
The other pump feeds my anoxic Filter, at about 3700L per hour.

I flush the two drums and my BD's once a week. Feeding is not as heavy as i would like, but i have had no choice but to feed once a day.

Thats it. Thats all i have. AND, In a summer season where everyone has had serious health problems i have had none. I even removed a shimmie from my one Kohaku in Aug and placed it back into the pond, this fish then on to win Supreme Champ size 3 at our baby show in September.

      Ok,
But heres the deal, this is my stocking density. Not for the faint hearted.
Approx sizes, probably a little larger.
      Chag 70cm (27")
      Kohaku 50cm (19")
      Kohaku 50cm (19")
      Sanke 60cm (23")
      Showa 50cm (19")
      Kumonryo 45cm (17")
      Purachina 75cm (29")
      Chagoi 40cm (15")
      Shiro Utsuri 60cm (23")
      Magoi 40cm (15")
      4 x daughters fish 30cm each (12")
Assorted Survivors of Chags spawn in 2009. 6 or 7 - at btwn 15cm and 20cm each (6")
      Shubunkins x 6 15cm - 20cm (6" - 7")
Assorted odds and ends a handfull of anything from 8cm to 20cm.

Now given the above, i have full faith in this filtration system.
      Dave.

      Around 1000 liters.

I am getting my new liner and will be building my new temp pond over the next few weeks.
I will obviously start the required build thread. WITH pics.

I will then include some of my setup of the filter pics here.

The setup will basically be a move and the end of summer clean and restart. with a few mods i want to make.

What can have an adverse effect on these filters, like adding salt etc.

      Thanks

Most people put plants in some of their Anoxic baskets. Some plants tolerate salt more than others. Dr. Johnson has a list of plants and their tolerance of salt in his koi health book. GG

I am using Arum, lillies and water Lillies.
No adverse effect with those two as far as i am aware.

I have had no problems any way.

      i have 12 baskets.

I am Not sure about the 1 basket per fish?

      Ramzy,

      I would say yes.
As one needs to prefilter the water a little to your anoxic.

What you have there is essentially mechanical.

Is there a speed limit for the pump coming through the anoxic filtration bed? I am going to running at 12,500 gph pump split into at least 3 ports, would I need to reduce the speed of the water to less than 4,gph, or does it not really matter? Are there any limitation on the plants you can have in this system?

      Apparently not.
According to Dr Novak, quicker is better.

Well I'm back with some news

      1) Italy is rising with anoxic filtration. This picture is from a meeting done at my house last week.
All people around now want to try anoxic filter after mine results.

      2) I have now 8000 litres pond with 30 (!!!!) koi from 40 to 55 cm sized, 28 biocenosis pots (11"x11") in the filter and a prefilter done by me. I don't know the name in english language but is similar to trommel filter and use 20 micron syntetic tissue to stop debris. It's an automatic washing system. water is clear and ammonium 0,1 feeding a lot 2 times a day.

      Thank you Dr. Novak

Stay tune guys for a new test about speed in eliminating ammonium from a tank done with many filtration systems.

That filter looks interesting! Can you explain how it cleans the filter material off? Or is it just exchanging it for new material?
Here are videos of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm4jdSS9Q6A

These videos are from our pond (the jimmy's one). this filter works in the same way of the other (the prototype) so the filter material doesn't clean but exchange with new one. The prototype works with 10.000 litres/h pump flow, my pond with 8.000 litres/h pump flow. I think I would spend 80$/year to change filter material.

I ordered a rotary drum filter from Zac Penn and will gravity feed it to an Anoxic Filter. The anoxic filter will be 3' x 12' and approximately 600 gallons with 24 to 30 baskets. The RDF (KC-30) flows nearly 8,000 gallons an hour through three 4" outlets. Does anyone know if I can run all three pipes (and 8,000 ghr) through the anoxic filter and return to the pond with two ES4500 pumps? And, can this work without diffusing the entry water because it is gravity fed?

I just finished a new test on anoxic filter Vs. other filters.
Is too long to translate it. Please use Google to do it.
