biofilter construction
Kent
I would like to see photos of biofilter construction. If not a description will do.
Nice work, great info. Thanks

Stan, I'll post that on another thread. No rain today so we got some work done. We put 2 5gal buckets of large rock in the bottom of each biofilter. I was too lazy to drive to the rock yard so I raked up 4 buckets from my side yard. This layer keeps the pea gravel from falling through the 1/2" holes in the bottom plate.
-
Next we stacked part of the retaining wall around the back and carved out an area for the UVP 905 uv light. We sanded the surface with #12 and it should be ready to install tomorrow.
-
Next we marked the fronts of the barrels and cut them out for spills.
-
I glued the liner to the barrels with the glue Firestone sells for liner seaming. It sticks to poly tanks very well. I cut straps to secure the liner out of the pieces of barrel left over. Then I drilled holes in them for #10 stainless screws.
-
These were secured with lots of urethane sealer and the screw points were ground off the inside. The liner was trimmed around the spill hole and urethane was used to seal the edges. We finished the lower part of the retaining wall around the back and the last of the walkway up the left side.
-
Another way to secure the liner to the side of the barrel would be to use a bulkhead fitting or two and run it into a trough. The liner could be sandwiched under the bulkhead. If you were to do it this way the line should be directed down into the trough with a 90deg sweep and not up or straight out for better undisturbed water in the trough. These filters should be kept to about 1500gph each because the final sand layer on top can churn a little at flows over that.

Kent,
I know I'm being lazy and could do a search but is there a local supplier type for that Firestone sealant/glue?
I'm tempted when I see how the folds end up in the liner to just glue them down. No worries about leaks that way but it would hold them flat against the wall. Is there working time with this stuff or stick on contact? Will it work wet or does eveything have to be perfect?
Opinions?

Cindy, Kent's site is www.livingwatersolutions.com
Kent, you explained the EZR filters a while back. I know you use crushed stone for the first (bottom) layer. I noticed that in the AKCA filter book, the article in there says to use river rock and NOT to use the crushed gravel... Curious as to your thoughts on this. I know you use round rock for the next layer, but...? Dont mean to hijack your thread :o
Thanks,
Luke
