      Koiman1950 Ikeage fish

Well, I originally purchased a Kohaku and Showa. After pulling the pond 3 times, my poor Showa was not to be found. There are supposedly about 9 fish still in the pond. Maybe I'll get lucky. During the harvest, I took a break and walked around the perimeter of the pond. All of a sudden, to my surprise, there is my Kohaku, about six feet from shore, with her head buried in the mud just eating away. She stopped and looked up at me and just sat there. I guess she'd never seen anything so ugly before - LOL Anyway, I watched her for several minutes and she did the same. Anyway, here's her before and after pics. Went in at 12" and came out at 16.5-17". After the harvest, we all gathered around the tanks to look over the fish that were still for sale. I found a Sanke that Russ didn't even remember he put in the mud. He thinks it was already at the store and he thought enough of it to add it to the mix. Sure glad he did. I don't have an exact measurement but she is quite a bit larger than my Kohaku so I'm guessing between 18-19". They will both be getting another spa treatment next year which should do them a world of good!

Thanks for the update Russ. I know you did your best, but chit happens. At least it wasn't the other way around! I'm very happy with the results and the addition of the Sanke should result in a very nice prospect for next year's harvest!

I love how there isn't that much white as the tail stop. Great kohaku, Mike!

The sanke? I'm not worthy of saying a word about her...

Sure you are. What's your thoughts?

Did you see the picture Russ found of it before it went into the mud? Somehow it had gotten damaged on the nose and some of the beni was deeply gouged. Normally, I would have said once the skin shows white, it will not come back. Well, I learned another important and valuable lesson about what mud ponds can do for healing a fish. All the beni came back and filled in the gouged area. You can't tell where the damage was. Now, that's a sign of strong beni!
