Egg Impacted Koi Gets Some Help

Our Shiro has been holding her eggs for a couple of years. All our other female's spawned recently when we introduced some males in our main pond. The shiro just wasn't in the mood. I have lost nice show fish to impaction before and did not want to let it happen again without asking for help. Vicki and Carl told me to bring her up to their facility at Flatrock koi and we could get out the candles, wine and a Barry White CD and hope for the best. We found a couple of nice male's that might meet her approval and let them sweet talk her.It was slow going at first ,but after a few hundred " I will respect you in the morning"...It was on .....So cigars for everyone,we are grandparents and our girl has a nice body again.Thank you Vicki and Carl for your professional help with this matter and opening your home like we were family.

First pic is our shiro...26" omosako
Second and third pics are the worthy gentlemen...shiro,tancho showa and showa

I have a customer with a pond full of females and no males. IF they can't find a male to use, what do you do. Can you physically remove the eggs by hand stripping?

Sometimes you can massage eggs out of a female if she is ready

Well, if I were her, I'd be in the mood too, with suitors like that. So, who's got the babies? Congrats

She is in quarantine at the flatrock koi facility. Going to give her a chance to rest and a get a couple of treatments before she comes home. I did not take her picture after the spawn...but she looked great and was not injured

So, is this like horse breeding? The male gets a stud fee and you get the fold?

Glad to hear she unloaded the eggs and wasn't injured. I guess that alone is worth giving up the babies.

Congratulations on the spawn. Not even so much for the fry but from that picture it looks like she may have had some serious problems develop in the near future.

      Proof that sex is healthy.

OH, and she is a beautiful lady also.

I have a female just like that, Marbles who is in Pennsylvania and we are hoping that she will spawn this year. She is 6 years old. She looked just like that only about 30 Inches. Nothing has happened yet. Hope so soon.

From the size she was to this "much" thinner body, is there any stretching of the skin that will show?

I'm just thinking that if a person (I know it's a totally different thing) were to loose that much size in such a short amount of time they may need to have the stuff cut off or stapled .

We talk about growing our koi to fast when they are young and stretching the skin as being a bad thing. Any problem like that with a mature koi?

I'm surprised that big girl didn't eat those skinny little boys. Congrats on a happy fish. I've had the same problem. Five super pregnant girls and I just got a new male showa. Hopefully he'll help them out.

      They were really amazing parents.
The babies (I hope) will be champions.
I for one am looking forward to seeing some of them.
