      Expired Baytril

My friend had a brand new bottle of Baytril, but was expired in 06 of Sept. Would this be safe to use since the seal was never cracked. The vet requires an Rx and was very hard to get baytril from them. Is this usable? Let me know

      Thanks

That's a long time since the expiration date. So, if it were me and I was considering using it on anything more than a $5.00 mutt I'd slap myself in the face and throw it away!

It's not that it would be unstable but that it's lost a lot of it punch at this point. Turn it over to a drug store for disposal

Incidentally the page you referred to is describing the oral version. I don't know how much difference there is but I'd bet the injectible has a shorter shelf life, as the oral version is good for three years before it it is reconstituted. Powdered "things" do have a considerably longer shelf life.

I read that, and it says that after the first draw from the bottle, it should be discarded after 28 days. Now that being said, my vet buys a big bottle (100ml?) and doses from that. I doubt they dump it after 28 days, if it hasn't been used. He gave me 10 ml from that bottle, so I guess after a month, my stuff isn't really good anymore, according to this site.

Yeah, but it is still good. Honestly, the vets use it on more than one animal and never throw it away until it is expired. They use new syringes just like we should but that's about it.

If you were reading the same page as I was it is referring to the oral version of Baytril. There does seem to be a different set of "rules" for it compared to the injectible version.

Then again who says we follow the rules...............

thanks for all the replies. I have given it back to a vet, he was nice enough to give me a new one at a discounted price. Never questioned a Rx this time, but hopefully he remembers me next time I go.
