Ok Oxolinc Acid, I moved the posts here. Sounds like something we need to keep.

ok lee, found one of your posts:

Lois, Oxolinic Acid is another of the waterborne antibacterials, probably the strongest of the lot. It's used in a lot of instances where injectibles are not available, or not feasible ... like you just got a batch of younglings that are riddled with bacterial infections and budding ulcers (i.e., too many to inject). It would not be possible to inject 50 younglings, so you give 'em a bath and put them back into good water. Do it again in a couple of days ... you give baths on the same schedule as injections.

So this instead of tricide neo. Does it store the same for dips?

Ok, math not being a top subject for me and everything but the computer goes on calls, I did a quick sheet for dosage

guess I could carry a calculator (I do) but I like to see the numbers.

I'll be the very first to say, I don't know everything and learning is a constant so I appreciate input from the experienced people here.

      Will keep the details coming.

That's the second time I have heard of oxolinic acid. Where does one get it?

found this one, Lee, would this kill the filter?

      OXOLINIC ACID MEDICATED FOOD
If you need to administer this anitbiotic to your fish you can use the following recipe to make "fish jello" for them.
      6 Cups koi food pellets
      4 Cups Water
      6 Packets Knox gelatin
      5 Grams Oxolinc Acid powder

      1. Turn the 6 cups of pellets into powder using a blender.
      2. In a large skillet or wok, boil the water and add gelatin. Stir until completely dissolved.
      3. Cool gel-liquid until lukewarm.
      4. Add Oxolinic Acid to gel liquid and stir well.
      5. Add powdered food and mix well with a fork.
      6. Place in pan and refrigerate. Cut into squares to give to fish.
Feed this to the fish for 7 days. Stop for 1 week then feed jello for 7 more days.

Carl, I'm searching right now, I know the place in Florida has. Sounds like an excellent supply to keep in the first aid kit.

Cindy, it shouldn't kill the filter. Maybe knock it back, but not kill it. Feed sparingly, to make sure that the fish are eating it and not letting it go to waste. If you're going to try the medicated food route, use the one I gave you for Baytril. With all that stinky sardine stuff, the fish are more likely to try eating.

I get my Oxolinic Acid from the co-op ('cause it's close!). I did a search a few weeks ago for someone else and found a place to get it in smaller amounts (equating to less $$$), but I can't find it now. You DID find the link to the calculator.

Please note: There is a VAST difference in dosing between the "real" oxolinic acid and Oxolium

Use approx. .5 grams of oxolinic acid to 5 gallons of water for a bath. Let the fish swim around for about 20-30 minutes or so. I usually run a bubbler/aeration of some sort. I don't know if you're *supposed* to refrigerate or not, but I haven't been ... use for 3 days and toss in favor of a new batch. If it needs to be strained, then do so.

Almost as good as injections - much better than Tricide-Neo (in MY findings ... yours may differ).

Oxolium is the "lite" version; oxolinic acid is nearly pure. You just need to dose more of the "lite" than the pure stuff.

The link to the calculator that Cindy posted has calculations for both ... just make sure that you use the right one.

I found another source for the oxolinic Acid. It's $24.50 per 100 grams, but need to buy a kilo. If we could find several people to share, we could all have some. Maybe this is a future buy for WWKC.

Karen, the Oxolium has Oxolinic acid as an ingredient. Checking the calculator that Cindy found, it would take 25 times as much oxolium vs. using the straight Oxolinc acid.
