      Brad's Sanke

I got my random Sanke selection Wednesday morning along with a few box buddies. Everybody is healthy and not too shocked from the trip. Sorry for the delay, I just forgot to post here. I'm actually very happy with the quality and pattern on this one. Size is around 7" and should plump up before too long.

      Nice new additions.
Was the ochiba a box buddy... or just in the bowl as a greeter?

      She was a box buddy.

Being a greeter wouldn't be a good thing with the water that comes out of the bag... Matt put in great water, but then the Koi get spooked in flight and kinda mess it up. The ammonia is usually pretty high in the box water.

I didn't say this in this tread but what I do is gently dump the cargo bag into the bowl, add a bit of cloramx and a few cups of QT water that is rich in O2. After they warm up, and I have my photos, I hand transfer them from bowl to QT, then dump out the bowl water.

I was kind-of kidding about being a 'greeter,'
being quite familiar with crappy shipping water.

      Nice looking group.

Yea Broll, I knew that and you knew I new that... but I didn't want anybody to try it thinking it would be a good thing.

I moved my growouts to the pond today. It was a long day of scraping and scoping, but I wanted to have tomorrow off (pop's day).

This one lost a bit of beni on the sholder from my dark garage, but I expect it to return over time. We don't have a name for this one yet, but s/he sure is cute!

      Size is about 9"

She looks really good. The black looks really intense. The black on mine is mostly still under the surface.

Thanks. You know that they say... the longer it takes to get there the longer it will be there. So still developing at this age is, IMHO, a good thing.

We just named this sanke... "Piper"

She/he keeps going down inside my 4" bottom drain pipes. Once about a week back she was found in the SC just having a time. Then Thursday and Friday she/he went MIA. Of course thoughts of predators ran through my head and I was bummed about that. Saturday morning when I feed the crew she was still absent. I valved off my bio chambers and added my stand pipes, to separate pond from bio chambers, and proceeded with my weekly water change. After a minute or so I notice Piper is back in the pond and health as ever. We figure she was swimming in one of my two 4" bottom drain pipes for a couple days, then once I stopped the flow through that pipe she came back out into the pond.

I know some of you are going to say I should adjust my concrete bottom drain covers so Piper can't get into there. Actually, I added 3/4" couples to the pipe stubs (the feet) so to increase the gap because I periodically have so much leaf mater that it clogged once. By the end of summer Piper won't be able to get in there. For now... Piper gets to drive me nuts.

Piper has outgrown the "in the pipes" stage. I'll catch her in spring, along with all my crew, to confirm size and check her over real close...

What I really wanted to say is she/he sure is developing into a extra nice sanke. Thanks Matt

Just had to say that "Piper" is an awfully cute name!
Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn

I'll say something when I feel I have something worth saying. I'm not a fan of flapping my lips just because they are there.

      Spring Update

Every spring I drain down my pond so I can catch, health inspect, and take a few bowl photos. This year that was done last Sunday (the 8th). These pictures were taken then. The black lines in the bowl are one inch apart.

Isn't Piper turning out to be a great Sanke. Thanks Matt
