      Zac's Growout Journal

Most of the fish I was really interested in were chosen before it was my turn. Out of the ones remaining I had originally passed this one by, but once I turned to so it faced down it really started to grow on me. The shiro is outstanding and I think it will have a good bit of sumi coming up later. I am really hoping the "V" under the beni on it's head is going to come up. Either way I am happy I participated in this grow out.

I will post size and water parameters when it arrives.

      Zac

      EDIT.....

Well I got to bring (hopefully) her home today. I am not going to lie...I am a little upset that it is only 7.5"

I am excited to watch this little girl grow though. There is A LOT of sumi that is going to pop up.

This one was actually on my short list. I like that the pattern doesn't come too far down the nose, and it will look quite amazing when all that underlying sumi pops up. Not to mention this one looks like it will be a fast grower.

Okay I just knocked him out and treated the wound with iodine. For some reason it took him 30 minutes to go to sleep with 3 drop clove oil per gallon

Anyways it actually looked better then it did before. I still don't think it was a shipping injury. It had to of happened in the qt. I looked him over real good and found some slight redness in his anal fin, and a small injury on its side. I treated all wounds with iodine and slowly woke sleeping beauty.

Joey S wanted me to look for some redness coming off on the towel from the nose wound. It did dab a little but it looked like blood to me.

If these pictures clue anyone onto something please chime in.

Thanks for everyones help with this.

      Here are some pics...

I thought the usual dose of clove oil was 10-15 drops per gallon. That's what I've been using and they will still sometimes come around before I have finished treating them.

      UPDATE!
The beni is completely gone, and the shiro is on its way out as well. There are only a few specs of shiro, and the underlaying shiro seems to be backing off as well. The water parameters have been perfect and no chemicals other than Amquel Plus have been added since the original PP/hydro perox. treatment. All of the sores have completely healed and it is still eating like crazy. Aeration has been going full blast since it arrived and they canary chagoi is doing just fine as well. No problems with color loss or sores.

I just don't understand why the color is still retreating without additional stress or oxidizers???????????????????

There is not much you can do. I think the underlying Sumi will come up and he could have a very nice Shiro Utsuri.

It's too bad it lost it's beni, but it is interesting to be able to see the quality of the shiro so well, now.

Some times it just happens bro Chance.

Last picture looks like a really nice skin quality slow developing SU, but since we know the rest of the story (before pictures) its not so good.

Just a little update on my shiro

Nothing seems to have changed in the past month so I guess the little guy is done stripping

I didn't actually measure him, but he has to be at least an inche larger by now.

Little guy does look to have grown and bulked up. Hopefully the underlying sumi comes up and you have a nice fish anyway--after all that care and worry!
