      My 1.000.000 gallon pond

This is a link to my 1.000.000 gallon pond on my farm in Norway. I`m sorry the tread is in norwegian, but the pictures might intrest a few people. The pond is 15 years old, without any fish. But this week my frinds and I have drained it, and "cleaned" it. The plan is to fill it with Koi.

I first posted this tread on the mud pond forum. I`m not sure that is the right forum. Is it possible to move it?

I would say its fine in this section as it is a mud pond, more like a Lake , very impressive pictures.

Nothing at all! Just a few frogs

My father in law made the pond around 1990. The family have only used it for swimming. When I first visited my wife’s farm in 1996, the pond had already begun to loose its battle to plants and algae. Its 10 years since anyone used it for swimming because of this. Since my first visit, and even more when we moved her, I have tried to figure out how to “clean” it.

This summer I decided the only option was to take out all the water, 1.000.000 gallons , and use tractors to take out all the plants, dirt etc.

When these lines are typed, I have just finished with the water. But we still have the weekend to finish with the rest of the pond. It will be a lot of work, but it will also be fun. In a few weeks the pond will be covered with ice and snow. The temperature can get down to –20C in the wintertime in this part of Norway. I better be finished by then…

Then I can use the next 6 months to plan what kind of Kio`s to put in there

How did you go about removing 1 million gallons? I hope for your sake that it is a lake built with a stand pipe.

      I dont know

I import them from Japan, so I have to agree a price with the breeder. Then the will travel by plane to Norway (aprox 12 H) witch will also cost a lot of money.

My Showas costed me a total of 320 USD each. They are 40-50 cm, Im not sure how many inches that is, but is it aprox 15 inches? I dont have the time to check it out now, but I will do it later on

      Thanks, m8

As you can see in p24, p31 and p37, I just pumped the water out on the field. Thats why I had to wait until october, after I had harvested the crops. The water will finaly end up in the (real ) lake below the church you can see in p68.
