5 more days to go
I will add 120 ("the young guns") kois and one lage Kohaku (70 cm) on friday May 28th. The rest of the "A-team" will stay at the dealers place for another year. I want to be sure they can handle the winther before I add the rest.

Long time no talk! Been busy with my backyard water course project. One word of advise. Don't set your aeration to deep to help create more super chilled water during your most cold part of winter. Ensure your aerator is at a higher point in the water column to just help keep a hole open to help release dangerous gases. Your fish will enjoy that 39 degree F undisturbed water at its deepest depths. This temp will help your northern koi survive. The more snow ...the better as it will help to insulate your body of water. Question, have you considered windmill aerators as well set in shallow water at strategic locations to help your koi and lake develop healthy? All the best and looking forward to seeing your new spawn?

Hi Rowly
It’s nice to hear from you again. I’ve been looking for a tread on your project. Do you have one?
Thanks for the advice on the aeration in the winter. I know about the danger, so I put it in the middle of the pond, and only 1 m down. More than half of the pond are between 3-4 m deep, so I believe I'm safe.
Do you have some pics or drawings of the windmill aeration? That was a really good idea - thanks
What do you mean with my new spawn?

I've been on KP for quite some time and I always find a thread that I've missed. Wished I would have found this one along time ago. Simply awesome photos, pond, fish and landscape. Beautiful country you have there. I would love to be able to visit someday.
Please keep up all of those awesome photos.
The first step towards getting somewhere, is to decide you are not going to stay where you are.

Nice video.....I did worry that you were going to "step off" into the pond as you were moving in the brush.
