I thought I recognized that red clay stuff! My daughter is in Palmyra - not too far from you. Having a drain direct out the slope would be fantastic. Is digging the old fashioned way, with a shovel, out of the question?
Hope you plan to finish in 2008 not 2009. Going to be a great pond.

i would still try and do gravity feed out the back.this way if pump fails someday or even power goes out in a major storm ,water can still run away and not flood a filter pit.
my house basement leaks from being an old farmhouse and has a 4 inch tile instead of a pump to get rid of the water.that way i never have to wondr if sump pump kicked in during the night or when i am at work.
Can you get most of the drain trench dug without getting to close to the slope and a scary backhoe situation??

Stephen mine is similar to Marie`s.
You can buy these sump pumps at HD or Lowes.
The barrel is 30 gallons and the pump is around 3000 per hour hour I beleive. The pvc off the pump runs under the concrete and out the back of the pit.It drains into the easement behind my yard.
Dumping the first chamber
This is how my first chamber looked this morning I dumped them yesterday too!
This is mine, I can dump only one chamber full force and one half with this pump.

Go Stephen Go!
Sure, there will be some emotional ups and downs , but you will be so happy when you get to a point when you realize that you've actually got a back yard paradise pond in your yard.
