Pond was 50F yesterday when I put the cover over it . With weekend projections of snow (in Atlanta?) doubtless the temp will be falling a degree or two. The coldest I have ever measured was 45F.
21 degrees outside when I got up this morning, pond water was 51. I've kept a small heater running in my filter house which I believe has made all the difference this year, temperature in the filter house goes between around 65 to 72.

Here we go again.
Next week be 70F again

The pond froze over Wed morning and spilled out the top 8" before I got it all shut down. I hope to get water back in later today if it warms up enough. I assume the fish are torporing on the bottom.

Two days later the water temp is 47.4*.
Air temp. under cover is 33.8* at 9:30 pm.
We are under an alert for extremely cold weather tonight. We are suppose to go down to 8*. I have lived here for 15 years and I don't ever remember it going below 10*. We had 4 inches of snow overnight. We don't get snow every winter.
Here is a pic of my pond taken from my deck. It is covered and the snow is laying on the cover. Makes it look very deep. I am hoping the snow will help to hold in more heat for the pond tonight.
It was 6 degrees the past 2 mornings with highs only in the low 20's. I'm keeping a hole in the ice with a bubbler. It's going to get warmer this week.
We just had 12 inches dumped on us 2 days ago and now its going to rain..Pond is covered and holding around 45 degress. I will do a 15% water change this Thurs. suppose to be around 60 degrees...Good time to check on my babies..lol love these darn fish
Doesn't the weather man know we are in the South. After 3 days of not getting above freezing and 3 nights of single digits to teens we need a warm up fast.
Last week before the cold front I went in the pond to clean algae off waterfall, it was so hot under the cover I had sweat rolling off my forehead. I pulled the thermometer out of the pond to get air temp and it was 98* under cover. I forgot to put it back in the water and during the last few days of cold I've been afraid to see what water temps dropped to.
I was finally brave enough to drop it back in the water today and to my surprise the water only dropped to 46*. I thought for sure it was going to be a lot colder especially with the 3' straight drop water fall still running under the cover. Fish are swimming around and came right to me when I checked in on them today.
Happiness is adopting a mutt and my pond is FULL of Happiness....

Yesterday we set a new record low of 0*, breaking the old record of +1* set 77 years ago. Thursday we are supposed to be about 67*, and I get to go swimming again. One of my boards has partially come loose for the cover, so I want to get in and get it stabilized before the next snow load takes it completely out. Still have a lot of the white stuff on the ground.
