      how cold can impatiens get?

I planted 48 impatiens and 16 coleus all around the ponds and creek this weekend. Wouldn't you know it....it was COLD this morning. Frost on my car. I checked the impatiens this morning.....they looked OK, but are they really? How much cold can they take before they die? I am hoping that enough heat was reflected off the pond surface so that maybe they were protected. I guess I should have waited a bit before planting them.

If they going to be affected you would have seen it unless they were frozen stiff. Did you look at the coleus they dont like cold at all. I hate that my pond is not finished I need to plant impatiens this weekend and I am not ready.   it looks like my pond will have no color at all this year.

Thanks Gary. Everything looked OK this morning, even the coleus. I didn't check the hostas...some got knocked back by the last late frost we had....and the two bananas that tried to come up a few weeks ago got frosted last time too. I guess I'll know more this evening when I get home from work. I hope you get to plant your impatiens. How soon before the liner goes back in your pond?

Maybe you can plant some in pots, and then transplant them into the ground once you get the pond done.

Have you seen the peach butterfly impatiens?
They have a dark red center, with peach exterior to the blooms (each petal is bi-colored).

If you can't get it totally smooth, can you get some old carpet or padding to cover it with?

that sounds SO pretty!!! I did get some neat dark rose colored ones that are really nice. Also got the usual.....pink, lavender, white, etc. So far, all are doing great. My Park seed inpatiens have sprouted too...they are sun tolerant. Hopefully they will grow fast enough for me to enjoy them this summer...I was late getting the seeds started.
