      Cover

Here are few picture of the pvc I used to secure the plastic in place (3/4 pcv cut in half screwed with self taping screws)
The 4th picture is the only thing I see happening to the galvanized pipe no rust just the white stuff.
The last picture is a 1500 watts heater(I know is dangerous, it is connected to a GFCI) it works really well to keep the snow and ice of the cover and at night when the outside temp drops bellow 32F I turn it on and it keeps the air inside the cover around 55 F

We also have a dome very much like Jesus' but made out of PVC. The PVC clamps keep the plastic from blowing in the wind.
One thing we have done since we have had the domes is to roll the ends of the plastic that is on the ground around a deck board or old 2x4. This way when the winds are high the plastic can't be pulled out and up. We also have cement blocks and rocks on top of the boards wrapped in the plastic.

      All the domes look great.

Thanks to all of you for posting some nice looking domes and covers you've made for your ponds. I sure picked up some tips reading your comments and looking at the pictures. As the outside temperatures get really cold, I'd be interested to know how the water temperatures of the different designs hold up.

I'm not sure what the low here was last night, but it's only 19 degrees outside here now at mid day. Probably in the lower teens.

The pond water temperature is at 51.3 degrees today.

      Hi Dale,
From Brady's Koifixx DVD spotlight on your pond, I seem to recall that your filtration house is separate(?) from your main home? I was wondering how you are heating the filter house, what fuel or electric, and if you have an idea of what it costs to keep that space warm. At those ambient and pond water temps, your system seems to be holding up to winter very well!

We have had temps at zero or below here infact, we haven't been above freezing most of the month and the pond is 43.5. Our pump house has a small electric heater from Lowes that cost less than $20 with a thermostat that keeps the pump house at 60. In there is my air pump and filter system that blows the warmer aitr into the covered pond. So far, it is working great for us. By the was, our pond is almost 3,000 gallons.

You asked about cost, since I turned off my waterfall pump, my electric bill is the same this month with the heater running vs the waterfall pump months.

How is your pump house constructed? How is it insulated? Size?

Mine is 12' x 10' x 4' deep cement block with 6' high shed above. No insulation around the cement block. Will insulate the wall and roof with the pink stuff.

I had a space heater running last weak turned it off yesterday?

Were you standing around the TV Saturday night at Keirin (most of the time)?

OK, here is the pump house that Carl built. We filled around it with dirt almost up to the room. It has a cedar roof and cedar doors. The earth is the main insulation. It stays nice and toasty.

I was there for a time. If you look at Cindy's picture thread, we are Chuck & Heddy. About halway down on the right side of the postings.

      Hello Wayne,

Yes, the pump house is separate from our house. I heat the filter area with a natural gas heater. It's a thermostat controlled wall mounted unit with a blower motor to circulate the heat. I keep the thermostat set at 60 degrees, which is pretty warm when it's in the teens outside!!

In the Koifixx feature, when Brady was shooting video inside the building, you can see the heater mounted on the wall below the big window.
