      Ornamental flowering Peach Tree

I was at Lowes today and this tree caught my eye. It is a Ornamental dwarf flowering peach tree called Bonfire. It blooms like crazy but makes no fruit. It gets 6' tall and 5' wide. Best part is it was HALF OFF!!! Only $9.99 for a 5 gallon pot! Isn't it beautiful!!!

it's grafted, so I am sure whatever suckers do pop up won't be anything nice. I'll keep an eye out for them. they also had a green one...I think I'll go back tomorrow and buy it.

I bought the last one that our local Lowes had about 2 months ago. I wasn't lucky enough to get mine at half off though! But by now they'd all be gone so glad I found one...

Mine has some small fruit on it but thats fine. Some of the leaves are turning green, I guess because it's in full sun.

I've only got one pix with it which was taken 2 weeks ago, you have to look close for the fruit. *right hand side*

I love the color. I have not seen one at our Lowes. I'd own it if I did.

Funny thing is, they have all the half-off plants around the side of the building. No one walks back there unless they know the sale trees are there. I wasn't going back there either...but then I spotted the burgandy foliage and decided to check it out. they have 15 gallon trees (oak, maple, ash) for $12 too! And several more of these flowering peach trees. Heck...I might just buy them all at that price! I have never seen them before!

You definately can't go wrong on the price!
Did the green ornamental peach have the thin long leaves also?

I have the larger version of that...and it puts on little tiny peaches...and stays that same red color all season...but, where ever those peaches fall there will be a little tree come up...I usually cut it back every year and don't get many peaches....I failed to do that this year...We will see...I may enough trees to pass around

yep...the green one has the same ling thin leaves. I am so happy I found this little tree! I am going back when I get off work and get a few more of the burgandy ones and a green one. I am going to try one in a container and see how it does.

Lawanna, ones grown from seeds probably won't be the same. These are grafted, and I don't know what root stock was used but it is probably a dwarfing root stock. The seedlings probably will not be small trees, although the foliage will be the same.

Maybe thats why mine gets large...it was from a seed...it has the same color and little tiny fruit...I have found though if I trim it back every spring before growth...it doesn't get as big...of course you don't get many flowers...but, I really don't like it for the flowers...I just love the color and the texture it gives to my garden behind the pond.

yep...that would explain it. The root stock determines the size of the adult. Myer's lemons that people keep in the house are grafted onto Flying Dragon root stock which keeps them small. Even if that peach was big it would be just beautiful! I love the foliage. It is SO different in color, shape and texture from anything else I have growing!
