Here's one....an 18 inch Sumi Nagashi....some might say Matsukawabake, but breeder says otherwise. Believe it translates to spilled ink or something along those lines. Don't see many of these.

One I used to have ...a 15 inch Ginga.....was the friendliest koi I ever owned. Developed a tumor...we operated but could not remove....she eventually died.

Not sure it's all that "unique" or unusual, but it is a very dark Ochiba. When I bought it off ebay (knew the lister) they had it down as a magoi..uh huh... When I picked it up I could see it was an ochiba, but it was hard to see the spots. I love how it's developed and the head color is gorgeous! Anticipating it getting bigger!!

Unusual as in went from ugly to uglier! Spouse bought an ugly-as-all-get-out Showa when he was in a koi-buying frenzy in our early koi days. A couple of summers after we bought him, he got a bacterial infection: fin rot, ulcers, scales sticking out, you name it. I decided to try out my Nurse Koi skills on him for practice. I put him in QT tank, swabbed his wounds with Hydrogen Peroxide, dipped him in Tricide-Neo, and treated him with Formalin / Malachite green. I tried it all (at the same time ) literally! Well, that son of a gun lived! I was so proud. Over the next few weeks, he thanked me for my Dr. Quinn, medicine woman, routine by getting even uglier! Almost all of the hi disappeared - he looked bald! Unfortunately (fortunately?) he succumbed during the great hailstorm disaster of 2005. Yes, the rest of my koi are much nicer, thank you very much.

When I saw this picture I thought it was my fish! May I ask where who is the breeder?

Sorry I don't know how to post questions here. When I saw the picture of your Sumi Nagashi I thought it was my fish. May I ask who is the breeder?

Dan that first fish you posted (Sumi Nagashi) is absolutely stunning!!! I bet it is so pretty to see swimming in the pond. Very very pretty. May I save the picture to paint at some time?

This one isn't mine but I thought it was unusual. They said some koi look like people.
