The other day I noticed one of my small (10") Kohaku (photo taken before problem) was very sore and red around the mouth but just behind the lips so kept an eye on it and this morning it was loads worse and had sort of blistered out near the barble so decided to act straight away. i took a slide from the area and checked it under the microscope and all was clear, the fish is swimming and eating as normal and all other fish are fine.
Rang Dennis at Infiltration and following a very helpful discussion I nipped to there place bought some MS222, a shringe of antibiotics and some woundmed and he carefully explained the procedure to me and then back home to start.
I prepared a clean towel (wetted in pond water) and to a small blue bowl I added 2 gallons of pond water and the MS222 which Dennis had measured out for me. Caught the fish and transferred it by koi sock from the net to the bowl within about 90 seconds it slowed its swimming and keeled over with only light gill movement so I carefully lifted it onto the wet towel. I gave it 25mil out of the 100 mil shringe injected into the caudel muscle about 4 scales in from the tail and above the lateral line. I then gently cleaned the wound area with the corner of the towel and then gave it a couple of squirts of WoundMED which turned dark green. I lifted the koi gently into the pond and held it while it came too from the annasthetic and gently swam away to join the others.
I was nervous having never injected a Koi before but it has just been up feeding with the others but I will keep an eye on it for a while. Unfortunately I was so busy I did not take any photos but if ever I do it again I will get someone to photograph the procedure from start to finnish.

Beautiful fish....something I did that helped a fish that had mouthrot is Tricide Neo... I bought it from Pondrx.com....It is really great....I did this plus injections...because mouth rot can be very vicious. Be sure to follow the directions...distilled water, air stone and etc.
It's very scary the first time - people do it because they have no choice. But after it's done the first time, the next times are a lot easier. I really like working with MS222 (although it doesn't smell as good as clove oil!): it's quick down/quick up.
Keep an eye on the fish - you've got a good start on the mouth rot.
I gave it 25mil out of the 100 mil syringe injected into the caudel muscle about 4 scales in from the tail and above the lateral line. Bob
Just for the record - I'm pretty sure there are missing decimals. You probably had a 1 mL syringe and injected 250 microliters (since the smallest disposable syringe in the US is the Terumo 300 microliter insulin syringe with 29G fixed needle).
Glad to hear it went well. IM injections are a bit tricky.
You are correct with the dosage, it is a tiny thin insulin syringe with short needle. I have just been checking the fish again and noticed the start of the same thing on a Shasui of a similar size and the fish came from the same supplier which I found through ebay . I bought 5 smaqll koi from him so I will be watching them like a hawk.
It would seem that the problem may be contagous so I will do more tests to find the problem.
