pretty foaming
pretty foaming
the water continues to clear. i'm surprised it took 6 weeks to quit foaming. i have been doing water changes 10-15% per week.
i am feeding about 2 pounds per day to the 50 or so fish.
had a small nitrite spike, <.25 after taking the bead filters off line. it only lasted a couple of days, never ammonia.
Carl
even three months later still producing a lot of foam. this is overnight production.
the fish have never seemed happier.
Refresh us on what kind of mechanical filtration you have? While the TT may be producing foam through agitation, the mechanical end may be making the DOC's. It's early, hope that makes sense.
Garrett
my mechanical is a 1600 gallon vortex, 9 feet deep with 125 brushes in the top. i also have a large bead filter that i am not running now. trying to save some electrical $$$. this is flushed once a week.
Carl
How do you feel the brushes are working in that application? Do they create a solid wall that the water must pass through before it exits the vortex?
I'm actually hoping to see your setup in person Tom talked about spending the better part of a day with you in October so we could see your tower etc. and then go on to Eastern Nishikigoi (and other places?) to look at the new shipments of two year olds
come on by. we are having the So Cal Koi Club monthly meeting at the house Oct. 10th. not sure what time the meeting starts. all are welcome.
to answer your question, they do trap much of the solids, although there are always fines in the pond. i am still evaluating how they system is working with out the bead filter. i will probably turn on the bead filter before the meeting to give some final filtration of the fines. i don't need it for any thing other than mechanical.
overall i am very happy with the way things are working now that i added the trickle tower/waterfall. it sounds great too.
i kind of wish i had spent more money and gone Tom's route with the Nexus but would have needed at least three or four and more $$$.
Carl
thank you.
all the water is pumped to the top of the TT with a 3/4 hp WLim pump and the water T's off at the far end at the top of the TT with a valve to the TT portion and another valve to the waterfall.
i need to get some better pictures of this area.
