Large poly tanks instead of concrete pond?

Are there any downsides to using large hdpe water storage tanks as ponds instead of building a concrete tank?

You won't have any of the disadvantages and advantages of the lime in concrete.

I had a white poly tank and it worked well. My friend is now using it and buried it in ground. My fish were above ground in same tank and seemed to spook when I approached them

Pretty limited in shape for most types... I've always wanted to build the pond in the shape
that fits the space I have.

A cracked fiberglass swimming pool shell could be an option.

Easy to repair the cracks, easy to fit a bottom drain.
