How long does dechlor throw off the api test for ammonia?

I transferred my fish to a new tank and so far have no ammonia or nitrites. I used the existing media and transferred half the water from old tank. I have a weird feeling I have ammonia present and added prime about 24 hours ago last time. I do have some test strips and if I remember right they test different than the drops. I've done the ammonia alert and the fish either suck on it or it gets messed up in the rdf. I want to feed the fish some but not if I have ammonia present.

Since the latency seems to be 24 hours for prime. I'll retest everything and especially nitrates to make sure I'm cycled. I don't have my carpet algae that I had on the walls and floor on the last pond so I'm worried I don't have a fully cycled Pond like I did before plus it dropped 10 degrees in 2 days and I'm indoor with no natural sunlight.

I don't like seeing bubbles in the pond. I do have a shower filter but never had bubbles like this in a long time. To me docs are present even though the water seems pristine. I can put a phoam fractionor on easily if needed

It's not that Prime/Safe makes the API test different, it's the fact that it doesn't change it even
though the Prime/Safe has ionized the ammonia to change it from NH3 (dangerous) to
NH4 (not dangerous). My understanding is Prime/Safe lasts 48 hours before it needs to be reapplied.
But your API test will register ammonia even though it may be NH4 and not dangerous. If it
      registers nothing, you're golden.

They are easy but not always smart lol. I've been nothing but stressed and there are a few things I'd rather not discuss such as my back deck dropping 2 inches in the corner. Thanks for the kind words though bro mitch. I've been a little on edge lately bro

Stupid is as stupid does. I had a 10 foot diameter intex at 1,000 gallons and over 8,000 pounds. All held well until I went to a koi show and the rdf cycled out 300 gallons under the deck. Happened one more time as I had a leak in the pond. The water soaked the soil and the deck dropped in the corner. Now i have to jack it up and reshim the deck to the block supports. My brother told a contractor what I did and he said good luck. He used to build water features all over also. Sometimes my stubbornness kicks me in the rear. I figured hey it is really strong and it was was when the soil was dry

Anyway seems the new tank is doing well and doing daily water changes. The rdf has not needed to cycle in 24 hours. I have not fed the koi for about 7 days. Profidrum was cycling every 10 minutes as the fish were eating the algae off the walls and floor. Algae makes the rdf cycle very often and I haven't used a uv light for over a year and does produce what I consider good algae

Kevin, you can use a mesh laundry bag to put your Ammonia Alert in, or one of those teeny gauzy drawstring jewelry gift bags.
