I like that gold sieve idea for my temporary tank in the basement. If you were only going to have one pan on a small 100 gal. tank, which size would you choose? Right now I am just running water through some filter pads in a bucket and that is dropping into a 55 gallon MB filter, then back to the tank. I'm thinking one of these gold sieves could take the place of my top filter pad. Right now I wash out the top pad once a week when I do a water change. There are only eight 5 inch goldfish in the tank.

If you flow 4-500gph then one 1/70” pan should do it with twice a day spray
If outdoor then I’ll worry with algae clogging faster so maybe some matt media as strained before the sieve

Currently flow at least 800gph each with 5x feeding and they will do fine 10-12 hours

Why do you have your sponges on top of the sieve screen?
I would think you would want the sieve to catch all the big stuff before it goes through the sponges.

      Without the matt
Water would overflow in 5 hours

The other one was picked out by Junichi student and mentee. He made a jump for the borders and is not retired. I do need to get a net ASAP before I add more koi. I think I’ll only keep the three white koi 3 gold ones, the blue one and the Junichi Showa the rest I’ll rehire when I get more koi this spring.

Koi safety learned the hard way
I had to put up plastic lattices around the pond’s sides and none had jump since maybe they bounced back in the pond

Absolutely I honestly want to build something like vegaskoi the wife wants a swimming pool so half of the backyard and I’ll take 60000 gallon koi pond and I’ll partition with nets for breeding experiments. One can dream right? If so dream big kakak

Look at what this hobbyist achieved with 4 small breeding ponds. Spectacular

I just purchased 2 55 gallon 600 micron sieve and added to my diy sieve static k1 and bacteria house bakki shower filter. Hopefully then new sieve will last like a week between cleaning.

You’ll probably spray the sieve screen less but need to cleaning the K1 more because more particles can pass through 600 microns rather than 350 microns
