      Overwintering Koi and feeding schedule

      Hi,
For the first time in 14 years we decided to take our koi out of the pond and try overwintering them in our heated/insulated garage. We live in a Zone 4a and in previous years heated our pond. Our garage heater is set to 0C. The water temperature right now is about 12C. The water temperature in the pond before we took the koi out was below 10C and we stopped feeding them a few weeks ago. Now in the tub they seem to be swimming around, were as in the pond they were docile already. Does that mean we have to feed them again. The water temperature in the tub might go back down in the next couple of weeks since we are expecting our temperatures to go down as well. We understand that the koi develop a plug if you don't feed them for a while. If we start again now, would it hurt them? We do not have a filter system in the tub, only an aerator, since we thought the temperature in the garage would be around 0C or 5C. If the temperatures fluctuate between 12C and say 5C, do you feed when above 10C???

I would feed them only if
Water temp is Over 50f or 10C
      There is some type filtration
Do waterchange and match the temperature in case there is ammonia detection
Try to keep water constant at least 10C prefer 15C
You don’t need to feed a lot
Just enough to keep them active from lining up on the tank floor
Use low protein food for digestion and less load on bio
There is no way to add a pump and some type of media from the current pond for seeding?

Feed only if the temp is over 55f and you know it will stay there for weeks. Also watch the fish and they will tell you when they are done eating. I have never seen koi come to the surface to feed below 52 to 54 degrees in my pond so others may be different but the herd will tell you when to stop. Also having them go into torpor and come out of torpor multiple times during the winter months has not been good at least for my fish and pond conditions.
