      Narumi Asagi Development

      Good Day/Evening.

How will this male narumi asagi (from Oya) develop in the years to come? Right now, it's a 47-cm long nisai. I'm well-pleased with the bright blue reticulation, but my fish still refuses to have more orange. In truth, the amount of orange appears to have receeded (only its pectoral fins and its shoulder joints have retained the orange) despite having fed him spirulina-containing diets. SHould I be concerned or is this still fine? What should be my next moves?Name: DSC02753.jpg

      To be concerned ?
He looks great. Orange may increase or not, all depends of his genetics.
Enjoy your asagi, not all koi will turn into a show koi.

      Patience...nice long body clean reticulation
Can someone chime in the terms “Narumi” or “Konjo”?

I think the orange will come with time. The less you see early on the better.

Thanks for your candid comments. For a follow-up question, I was actually planning on crossbreeding him with a female ginrin asagi to get some ginrin narumi later in the future. Presently, my two choices for his mate is Yamaju or Iwashita...who among the two has better ginrin asagi?

My friend I wish you the best of luck, you are breeding two Asagi, you are going back atleast 150 years. By bringing in the ginrin it should help some but remember you will have some years to clean this line up. Now if you're thinking long term breeding I would cross your male Asagi with either a kohaku or a Chagoi to try and produce a female Asagi with a better body and then you could cross her back to her father and that way you would not impose one Asagi blood line over another Asagi line, this would make your trip shorter, Good luck
