      Eggy female?

My 19 female is looking pretty eggy. Is it too late or ill-advised to spawn her this late in the year?
      This was taken last week.

      Fat or eggy?
If eggy, should I encourage spawning?

Not at all as long as you are prepared to care for the fry during fall and winter and if you don't want to care for the fry that's ok to since it will be a better situation for her to go into winter without that load LOL I didn't answer your question, eggy, am planning a spawn next month.

I really don’t need more fry right now. I have babies from two spawns already this year. I’d just hate to see her have problems if the solution to avoid them would be to spawn her now.

Like I said spawn her and dispose the eggs and she goes into fall nice and trim.

How do you spawn a koi? I have one that looks really fat. I have read a bunch of threads on this site, but did not come away with a clear idea of what to do now.
      Thanks.

      Thanks.
I’m sure everyone has their own way of going about it. For my koi I just drop in a diy spawning mop in a corner of the pond and do a water change. Then in 24 hours or so the koi do their thing. I did that twice this summer and spawning happened both times. I just dropped the spawning material in tonight after a small water change, so we’ll see if the koi will do anything. I’m not real positive they will since the water temp is a good 10 degrees cooler now then it was the last two times when they spawned.

Well, it’s been a couple days now and there is still no activity. I cleaned filters and did a large water change yesterday, but I think the water temp is just too low to spark any spawning.
This next week is going to be very busy, so maybe I’ll just not feed for a week and see if she’ll absorb them?

I let mine spawn in the pond. I don’t move them.
To catch them takes practice. Move slowly, don’t chase. Chasing just spooks all the fish and they will zip around everywhere. Small koi are harder to catch at times. They can make sudden changes in their swimming direction. Larger koi move slower and are easier to predict where they will go so you can catch them easier.
A black net is best to use and try to get it in front of them. If you can get them to swim into the net it will keep them from getting out.
There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to catch koi too.
