My koi are so much healthier and happier now a lot less food. At first all I wanted was to get them to grow really fast overfeeding them with an auto feeder which caused a lot of excess waste and lacking in the filtration department. The summer weeks in Bakersfield being over 95-110 degrees heat only exacerbate my overstocking, overfeeding, and lack of filtration. The trifecta as it were.
Permanent solution to a temporary problem is get rid of the pond my wife says
I’ve culled some koi I don’t like I’m down to 40 6 inches now or so and feed 1/10 of what I was feeding before. More often filter cleaning and weekly water changes. A little expensive on the chlorine conditioning side $7 for 700 gallons each week.
I’m so happy when I went to Andrews koi international and looked at their $25 Japanese imported koi selection and found that most of my kois were similar if not better quality than the Japanese imported koi.
