      Another one... Doitsu Soragoi ?

I'm new to the Koi ponding. I was helping clean out a pond that was stocked 10 years back and they need to find/fix a leak.. so they were clearing out the pond of all fish.

So what do you think of this 6-7in guy? Is this a Doitsu Soragoi? Will the blue fade down to gray as he ages?
      Thanks!

I have a doitsu, was told it’s parents are German, that had color similar to that. It was lighter as a baby and is now very dark blue with silver tipped fins.
Here are some pictures for comparison.
Here he is when I first got him. He was in a large vat in a shed, so his color was very light.

Since being kept outside his color has stayed consistently dark. But when kept inside he gets lighter.

wow... that's a dark blue. Any more shots to post?

There were similar 18-24" versions in the pond. I might go back to get some more and see how they hold up. They are in a fully sun exposed pond and still have that decent gray/blue color.

Sure. These are from last year when I moved him outside. He was being held in my basement for a year while we redid the pond.

He is one of my favorite males in the pond and is now 16”
I’d say they are worth taking a chance on. Hey aren’t showy like bright koi, but still very enjoyable.

I wish I had better pictures of him. I have to crop full pond shots down so they aren’t the clearest photos.

The last picture makes him look like a Hajiro. Good luck to both of you with your babies
