Koi and a Oscar living together.?

Can a koi live with a Oscar ? My friend wants to give me a Oscar and I’m thinking about adding it to my pond with 3 koi. Would that be a great idea.? If not, can you explain to me why it should t.? Thank you. This website is great to communicate.

Is your pond heated so you can keep them at the correct temp during the winter?

During the winter I can bring them inside. I’m just wondering if there are compatible or if I should just keep them away.

I think an Oscar is teratorial and aggressive. He may chase and nip the fins of the Koi.

I doubt it also, they have different living requirements, and oscars are definitely extremely aggressive. Why are you so interested in mixing fish in your pond? You are looking for trouble if you take fish from all over, even if you know where they come from. Fish have different organisms that they grow up with and become accustomed to. Each "lot" or different environment of fish have different organisms, which can be pathogenic to each other. In other words, if you keep mixing fish from different people, they will run into something they aren't used to, which can be deadly to them. You run the risk of losing your entire pond population. Read up on quarantining.

You should not mix the two. Everybody knows Oscar is a grouch. Just ask your kids.

I had a Oscar in a above ground pool in FortLauderdale when I was 20 .... a long time ago .

My roommates and I put gold fish in to feed him they never got eaten they just grew .

The Oscar got big enough to eat lizards in one bite . He would jump out of the water and take it out of your hand .

After I moved my roommates put a little alligator in with him , the Oscar and gator would compete for food .

It got to cold one winter and he died ... end of story

I've had two oscars in my pond for years. They are about 10 inches long now. I've never seen them go after any of my koi (largest koi are 24-28 inches, and newest small koi is 6-7 inches). The oscars help keep the guppy/moquitofish population in check, but they enjoy the koi food too.

if A koi won't fit inside an Oscar's mouth he won't notice it unless you crowd them really bad and the koi is a little smaller than the oscar. I have 29 oscars in my pond right now...and about 20 koi. the oscars eat the mollies.

Wow! I'm surprised to hear this. I didn't think they'd get along. Got any pictures? I'd love to see your pond and fish.
