The only failures are those that stop trying! There is a very thin line between procrastination and delayed gratification. You won't be happy with what you want, if you aren't happy with what you have. It's not what you are looking at, but where you are looking from.

      Hello Gene
Correct me if I’m wrong just trying to learn here as well
The kohaku has a nice long body but I believe it is a male and my guess it is around 20”
Pattern is okay for big fish
I see some beni on the pec fin and a split to a small window which is not ideal
So far skin look decent to me
Is the kiwa look finished so could this be hard beni koi?
      Jus my thoughts
Do you breed your own koi Gene?
Ya in great shape from the UKC label sir

Def male. Seems like soft beni but also stable. Fish may be stressed from bowling but shiroji seems clean in first pic and the skin does seem ideal. My shiroji seems change when I'm feeding growth food and bulking the koi up. Fall and winter is absorbs all this. Guess that is why people prep koi for show. I'm still a rookie though

The pattern is not bad but the Beni on the fin I would say changes the fish a lot. If its male its got great body but if its a female try and get that body bigger\

Those are really bad photos. It just goes to show you can't judge a koi by a photo especially a bad photo. Those two photos were taken at a koi show and that koi took GC. It is a female. Look at how thick the tail tube is. The reason the pecs look pointy is because they are not spread out. It is yonsai (in its 4th year). While I was in Niigata during April 2006 I was fortunate enough to be able to choose 8 koi from the unsorted tank of tosai. This koi was 8" at the time. I sold it to Bart Atkinson who raised it under excellent conditions.

I did back when I had the farm, but it was just for the learning experience. It was really fun and also really hard work. The two best results I ever got was a shiro bekko and a tancho sanke. This is when they were nisai (in their second year).

I predict a great future for this koi. It will be expertly picked, sent to the USA, find a good home with great care and will eventually become a Grand Champion.

Yes it is. We've both changed a lot in the past 12 years. My hair color has returned (due to diet), but I don't have the same bulk anymore.

I have recently purchased 3 Dainichi Kohaku (12-15 inches) for an unbeatable price. Took pictures of course but I can't get them to pose the perfect 6 o clock position

You would need to start your own thread anyway.
people like to vehemently defend their purchases and find it incredulous that anything could be better

I’m curious how good they can get with unbeatable price on Dainichi
I spent good amount on a Dainichi koi and the body is terrible
Russell told me It will cost me an arm and a leg for a true Dainichi koi so dream on
