      White Lines Down Fish

Have an issue with one of my fish where it looks like white lines or peeling skin from a sun burn.

My friend came over and we took a scraping from the area and could not find any parasites in the microscope....

She she gave the fish three shots (over a span of 5 days) of Baytril believing this was a fungal problem.

Any idea what is going on here or how to treat because the treatment was not beneficial to the fish.

Baytril treats bacterial infections, not fungal infections. Whst you are seeing could well be a water quality issue. What are the values for amminia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and KH?

Thank you for the response and let me get these water values tonight....I can tell you we went away for 3 weeks and on day 2 started having RDF issues with my dracco drum.....For these three weeks I struggled to keep the pond running and absolutely had water qaulity issues...... The pond was disgusting when I got back and finally got it cleared up over the past week.

The parameters look good now, but what you are seeing could be left over from when the water was bad. If it is not parasites, and it is not bacterial, then keep an eye on the fish and the water quality. Primary fungal infections are rare. Usually, if it was from a fungus, there would also be parasites.

Check for ph swing. Check in the the morning before the sun gets up and check in the evening before the sun goes down.

Is there anything I can do to assist this guy to a recovery or do I need to keep the water clean and hope for the best? Thanks in advance.

It would be nice to know if PH swing is causing stress for this fish. Once confirmed I would cover a good portion of the pond from the sun and ensure more circulation/aeration.

How does he act? If he is acting and eating normally then I would watch and wait. If he is flashing, piping, isolating, or showing other signs of disease beyond the white streaks, then we need to figure out what is going on and treat appropriately.

When I sneak up on the pond, I find him resting on the bottom of the pond not swimming with the herd. Once he sees me, he becomes more active and will join the kids and also eat. the other day I also found him flashing while swimming but this behavior has since stopped.

I wish I'd seen this thread earlier. I have a Kujaku that had the same exact looking physical symptom and the overall sheen to it seemed to be "off" as well. It's in a stock tank so there really aren't any rough surfaces that it could abrase itself, but I guess after countless flashings it did.

My koi were all active during the day, but right before sundown they either started flashing like crazy or stayed at the bottom with clamped fins.
I did 4 doses of Proform C a few days apart(not 3 days consecutively like the label says), but they all started looking & acting better right after the first dose.

I'm thinking it was either costia or trichodina.
