      Large Koi -maybe strange behaviour

      I have a large Koi - about 24".

When I throw food in the pond, this fish doesn't swim over to get the food; seems to like sitting under the waterfall or next to the pond edge.

She appears healthy in other ways. I've watched her 'eating' the algae on the side of the pond and I have seen her eventually eating the fish food.

The water conditions are good. I've got lots of aeration - waterfall; 6 discs from Aquascape and a large Aquascape aerator in the center of the pond as well as a floating UV/filter spray.

      Is her behaviour natural? OK?

First question would be, has this been the normal behavior of this fish in the past? From the description of the filter, I would like to see you do tests for ammonia, nitrite, high range pH, KH, and possibly nitrate. The drop type test kits are much superior to the test strips. Test strips once opened and exposed to atmospheric moisture tend to give very unrealistic values. What is the size of the pond, gallons and depth? Is the pond an Aquascape pond with the gravel in the bottom?

The pond is dug into the ground, covered with Rhino-coating.

All of the watering testing is good-both the strips and the liquid tests. All the rest of the fish are in great shape, excited about coming to the top of the water for feeding, etc.

I have Aquascape aerators. Waterfall; 6 filter discs on the botton and sides of the pond and then the Air-20 from Aquascape in the center of the pond.

The fish has always been slower-more meandering- but I noticed about a month ago that it didn't rush up to be fed. But to tell you the truth, I can't say I remember it ever doing that. The size of the fish seems good. It doesn't look to have any sores.
