Please help me evaluate this male kohaku

Hi all, I hope this is the right place to post, as I really am just trying to evaluate a purchase for a pond quality fish, not a show koi. I was thinking of purchasing this koi. It is a Hasegawa male, about 15.75", and right for my limited budget (about $600). I have had a Hasegawa kohaku in the past (victim of the skimmer), and really love the beni colors, so was happy to find a dealer who has them. My old dealer went out of business... I am not an expert, and really can't pick out skin quality based on a pic. Can you let me know your opinions on skin and body, as well as beni? Is the trailing edge of the beni a concern? Some of the scales look lighter there and I really don't want the beni to break... Please let me know, thank you!

I see what your'e talking about with the tail edge of the beni patterns. I think that has a good chance of refining itself and I would not worry too much about it. The body looks strong to me. The two things I would worry about are the sashi (leading edge of the beni pattern) looks a little messy to me but could refine as the fish grows, and the small window on the right side of the tail tube. Both of these things are pretty minor. Also, the hoshi is not very prominent ( it could be this pic was taken in early spring). I think its really easy to nit-pick issues on any fish. But finding a good koi is about finding what is beautiful about a koi, not finding its flaws. I think the frame is beautiful, The pattern is beautiful, and the quality is good. This is a beautiful fish and if it's in your price range, and you like it, grab it before someone else does.

Only you assumed it is not a show fish
      The skin is glowing
Nobody can stop you just bring him to the tristates show close by
But wait for sashi and kiwa looks clean or finish

Thanks all, that's very good news and I appreciate your feedback. I had to lookup hoshi , but I am learning!

Edited to add - Wow, I am happy to see that there's a koi show close by. I would love to just go and see as I have never attended one, thank you for the heads up!
