Danichi Kohaku and Omosako Shiro Utsuri

So my wife wanted to get out of the house and go on a road trip. So, I took her to Kodama Koi Farm in Saddle River, NJ. While she enjoys my pond, she's not a "koi person". I just wanted to go see some koi and since my pond is overstocked I had no intention of buying anything. Ya ya. So I ended up buying this Danichi Kohaku and Omosako Shiro Utsuri. They are both 9-10 inches. I bought 'em, obviously I like them. I realize the beni in the pec fin is a big no no on the kohaku. I bought the Shiro for the future, there are some nice bands of black under the surface I hope to come up. So, tell me what you think!

Honestly these two are out of my level
But hey the most important thing is that you’re happy with them
I’m hoping you don’t paid too much since I think they are just higher pond grade
Yes the shiro might gives some excitement to wait for
      Congratulation and have fun

Thanks for the reply . They were cheap, $150 each so inexpensive enough take a chance on. None of my fish are show quality, just higher pond grade so they fit in. Just like the Beni in the fin of the kohaku, my other fish have a non no or two also. But for my budget they are great.

But I would really appreciate your ideas on the demerits of these two.

The kohaku is the better fish because of better skin and body. At this size, you are just looking for potentials. My guess is that the kohaku will stand out more long term. It will be bigger with more glow.

So I posted this a year ago, here are a couple videos on their progress. They are both about 13" now.

Thanks, but my computer skills suck and had to edit the update. The Shiro you mention is not the one I bought last year. The Shiro originally shown in this thread is at the end of the first video. Sorry....

      Still like that SU

When I looked before it said the video was removed but I see them now...
I'll let others critique since I know nothing.

Thanks for the video update. The kohaku bulked up nicely which is not all that surprising. It is the better long term fish. Red on the pec is not an issue unless it bothers you or you plan to show the fish. The SU exhibits typical SU conformation shortfalls. It is very common for culled SU to have small head and weak tail tube. Your other SU is better, at least the front end.
