      Koi Fry and water change.

      Hi all,

First of this is my first spawn attempt. It is going well. My concern is the fry have hatched and not majority are swimming around. However my ammonia levels are up. How in the world do you change water with them being so small?? I don't want to hurt any.

Hi I am originally from Ohio also.

Water changes - Extremely slow, but steady. Pay attention to water temp entering and tank water temp (again, slow but steady) and don't shock them.

pH - Incoming water and tank water should be close to the same, if not extremely slow but steady

In the mean time you can use something like prime any ammonia binder will work to reduce the stress.

Congratulations Khristopher. Some type of mesh cage/covering on the water outlet to protect fry from flowing out may help, such as small net or cheesecloth.

And as Orlando suggested, some type of water conditioner that binds ammonia may help (Ammo-lock, Fritz ACCR, etc). I have not used Prime, but understand a lot of people do.

Do you have your feeding plan worked out? There are several methods. I use a mix of dry active yeast and pulverized adult koi pellets.

What variety are the parents? If you have pictures of the parents or your set up, we'd like to see.

Great thanks!! As for feeding I'm liquifying egg yokes with freezing dried blood worms. I picked up some cubes of brine shrimp for later. Attached is a pick of mom and dad Kohaku.Name: 15297880769784060782357189692626.jpg
