The last couple years if I drop water lettuce or hyacinth in my pond I've had flock spawns and have saved and raised a few of the offspring. I got mostly ogons, but I did get one showa out of the mix. This year I decided to select a spawning pair and see what happens. I know my fish are only pet store quality. I do this purely for the fun of it. Figured why not share it here.
Momma is a gin rin kohaku and papa is an ochiba (I guess). The male actually turns all black when he's in the pond. He lightens up over winter and did slightly in the small pool I used for spawning. They were only in it for less than 24 hours and the (poor quality) photos were taken post spawn. Spawning took place 2 weeks ago, 5/24. Hatching started over Memorial Day. Fry are going on two weeks old.
