I was mistaken when I posted that... I later learned that Tung Tran didn't design it but a friend of his in Vietnam did. My understanding is if you
contact Tung he may have access to more of them or could have one made. Here's his KP account or look for him on FB. I've got his
email address if those routes fail.

Always wondered what converting a BE water drive to electric solenoid and electronic controls would be like. This would assure full water flow to the cylinder and set times for drum cylinder stroke forward and return. No partial activations and stopping. Plus the option for a second complete cycle if the first didn't work. Quick, easy and low cost. Nothing wrong with motor drive conversion but this would be lower cost and low effort. Would the cylinder and drive mechanisms hold up?

I'm biased since the cylinder is what failed on mine and I was unable to get another one without replumbing the whole
RDF because of its age, but I wouldn't count on the cylinder lasting without having some sort of issue sometime
      in the future.

Lo folks. Been away overseeing a new factory in Vietnam. Back now at least unil the end of the year.
I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

I am looking at tying the RDFs for my new pond into the household automation system that is based on KNX.
A logic controller will switch the DC solenoids on either timer or float switch input. The solenoid power supply is dual redundant, and specifically designed for driving solenoids.

Magnetic limit switches on the RDFs will prevent over extension.

Over pressure is the leading cause of RDF component failure. In addition to installing a gauged pressure reducer,. I’ve switched the blue flexi tube with some rather pricey stiff fluoropolymer process tubing that is UV proof and rated for 10bar.

So under pressure causes the BE to malfunction temporarily, and over pressure blows out components. I bet BE wishes they had advised every purchaser to put in gauged pressure reducers and pressure tanks.
Do most civilized countries have better more reliable water pressure than the U.S.?

I had a pressure regulator and a gauge so I could control the pressure going to the
RDF and kept it set at 58-60 psi. My lines never failed but they're not the only things that can
cause issues too. Regulator and gauge are in the lower left corner:

Fwiw the motor and timer have not missed a beat since they were installed. I have to change the
cleaning time when I removed algae out of the stream because it dumps a lot of debris into the pond
and the RDF clean side will quickly run low if left at the normal cycle time of 25 minutes, but the time
is simple to change and hasn't been a big issue. It takes about 12 hours and I can move it back to the
regular cycle time. I've become a fan of "the less complicated, the better" philosophy.

      Hi, Steve

Is your converted BE still running good? Is there any issues?

I am thinking to convert my. I am looking for gears on the internet and find the site.
      https://www.mcmaster.com/gears
Would you help me to pick the gears what can be used for BE?

Honestly, probably not, but not because I don't want to! But I bought them in a kit so all I
had to do was assemble them, so I have no experience in actual gear selection. I'd be happy
to give you any specs on the ones that came with the kit and hopefully the other DIY experts
can guide you to which ones would work best.

Some pictures that might help with the selection:

The larger gear that is attaches to the drum shaft:

The smaller gear that attaches to the motor shaft (there are 11 teeth on the gear):

      Steve, Thanks

Do you have source where I can buy the kit?

I'm not sure if he has any left but contact Tung Tran at tung.tran@yahoo.com.

Here's a list of parts besides the kit that I used too:

I'm working on a step-by-step DIY thread of how I installed the kit... it should be ready soon.

      Sweet.

I have realized one thing about BE RDFs - they should make excellent capacity extension units when used in parallel with another motor driven system.

Just link them in series with the cleaning pump on the motor driven RDF and BOTH units will run in unison as long as the cleaning pump can supply enough volume.

I think I recently purchased his last spur and pinion gear because he didn't have a full kit anymore... unless he gets more made. I haven't started my conversion yet but have been collecting the parts needed to do it this winter. Looking forward to your step-by-step as it could give me some tips before I start drilling holes.
