Looking to buy an automatic feeder going on vacay

      Hi Koiphen community,

Since I trust people here to be experts on everything related to Koi, I am in need of an automatic koi feeder. I don't want to spend top dollar and want to keep it under $100 for a good value feeder. I read that the Fish Mate P7000 Auto Pond Fish Feeder at Doc Foster and Smith is reasonable one, selling for $80 with free shipping. Any vendor that may beat the price (prefer to give business to koi vendors), and if there is any recommendation that works better? Thanks everyone who reads this post.

I recently picked one up just for the once in awhile we are away. I also went no frills and went with this other one from Foster & Smith-

      https://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...m?pcatid=14436

It was cranking a little more feed than I wanted per feeding so I made a hole out of duct tape for the food to feed through from the inside- sort of like a funnel.

I also made an angled chute for the bottom out of cardboard to help spread the food so it wouldn't just plop a cluster of food in a tight grouping.

I watched it feed for a couple days before we left. It's simple, works well enough.

My P7000 had an "anti-clog" feature which caused it to empty the entire contents into the pond. I'm not sure
if they still come with this or not but I don't use it anymore and use the Koi Cafe. But it is more expensive.

Has anyone used the Ergo feder listed for $169 at seaside? Also any review on the solar feeder?

That may explain what happened to My two fish mates in a row . I was going to recommend against the fish mates.
Mine was stuck on though , even after it had emptied itself into the pond , so maybe that wasn't what caused my issue.

Looks like their green "hanging feeder" is the same one Fosters sells.

Thanks everyone for your comments and thoughts on this matter. I'll contact Joe at Seaside and see if he can match Doc Foster's price. Thanks again, really helps to ask the experts.

I have the ergo feeder from seaside. It's great, solidly built, and holds a descent amount of food. I replaced the timer with a smart plug and am very happy with it. I've heard the timer isn't great, so just plan on replacing it with a different one or a smart plug.

Your fish will be fine without food while you are gone. I never leave food or feed while on vacation. Too much room for error.
