DO major weather changes affect koi behavior?

I am curious if anyone has noticed fish acting strange right around a major weather shift. We have had a stretch of super hot days. 95-100 for three days straight. Then this afternoon the temps plummeted 25 degrees in about an hour. From around 100 to 75 degrees. A bit of rain and lots of lightening came with it.
Right after this weather passed I noted two of my fish breach and another flash- 4 times in quick secession.
      My water is 78 degrees.
      KH at 130
      Ammonia zero
      Nitrites zero
      Nitrates zero
      Phosphate zero
Salt at .22- coming down from .3 two weeks ago.
      Water change 25% per week.
The fish have been acting very good for the past few weeks during the warm up from winter.
I guess I could have an outbreak of some parasite that came on real sudden. But I hadn't seen a breach or flash over the last 4 days as I worked around the garden a lot. Then all sorts of odd behavior.

I think it’s possible. I had a koi jump my first year keeping and that was after a really strong storm passed. You guys in the cities looked like you had a pretty strong one roll through yesterday. Lots of pink on the radar.

My koi swim around during the hurricanes like its just another day. The only weather related thing that impacts their behavior are events that impact the temps of the water.

      Hi my2butterflies,
yes we did have wild weather whip thru last night.
BTW, are you member of UMKC? Coming up to the koi auction this weekend?

The fish look totally normal today. Not a sign of anything irritating them.

I also wonder after hot sunny stretches if they can get a sunburn that irritates them.

No, I’m not part of the club. I was planning on going to the auction, but then plans changed. I moved some koi and my two shubunkins this month to make room for a new koi, but so far all plans to get one have fallen through. Kinda bummed.

I too wonder if too much sun irritates them. I’ve been thinking of making shade for the pond, right now it gets full sun all morning and into the afternoon.

I had to put up shade sails for my ponds. I had fish that sunburned and peeled like you would with a serious sunburn. Once shade was provided, the sunburn problem disappeared.

Thanks Rich. I do think that is what I am dealing with. Sunburn. My old pond had a pergola. Think it is time to build a new one.

      My2B,
if you are still looking for koi consider reaching out to our club members. Maybe find UMKC on facebook. I think we have a page there. Always someone in the club with a few extra fish. Our auction is a lot of fun, I rarely buy, sometimes sell. Lots of nice fish available and fun to see folks get in a bidding war over a certain fish. May I ask where you live?
