Lost one - Red on Belly ?

Woke up this morning to this fish in the quarantine pond. He’s been in there about a month along with 6 others. Ammonia is at .25 and nitrates are undetectable. Air is off 2 hrs in the am and off 3 hrs in the pm (when it’s hottest). Only thing I could see was this red on his belly.
It’s been unseasonably hot here. I feed a little bit in the morning and then some late evening. And wondering if this is what happens when they can’t digest food because of the high temperatures or is this a different issue?

Why are you turning the air off?

They need air 24/7. Do you have a filter?

Did you look at the gills?

Got it...turned the timer off so they'll get air 24/7
Yes, the QT tank is ~200 gallons and I have submersible pump with a prefilter and a huge oversized pressure filter (like one that advertises it handles 4000 gallons). Ammonia is low (.25) but not zero and no nitrates are registering at all. I did not look at the gills. What should I have been looking for in the gills? I assumed the red spot on his underside is what killed him.

It could be bacterial or parasites. Did the dealer you bought from, quarantine. Ask what treatments they did.

How big is he, 6 is alot for 200 gallons. What are kh and ph and nitrites?

That wound is not sufficient by itself to have killed the fish. Were there any signs or symptoms prior to the death? Flashing, breaching, clamping, isolating,.....

As Cindy says, we would like to have the complete water chemistry. Water is the lifeline for the fish and in good water healing is more the norm than death. It is much cheaper and easier to correct water issues than to treat parasites and bacterial issues.

The source of that "wound" looks to be internal. Though I would not be sure of it.
I have seen koi with similar discoloration in the same area due to them resting on the bottom of a filthy pond.
      So my theory is..
I don't have enough information to make a good guess.

a 200gallon QT? and I am assuming it is above ground so it gets too hot for the koi if you have been "unseasonably warm"? death by heat stress?
      all just guesses.
