      Critique: Koda Goshiki

I picked this koi up as part of a growout almost two years or so ago, and she started undergoing some pretty interesting changes over the next few months. I've included photos of the transition this Goshiki went through in terms of darkening and having her sumi rise up through the beni plates. If she was just going to have some robing, which I find attractive on some Goshiki, then that would be fine, however, I'm worried her beni plates aren't deep enough and the sumi will overpower them and make them dirty or obscure them altogether.

Based on her progression, would anyone be able to tell me whether this girl is worth keeping or rehoming?

Depends on what u want. The sumi mixed in with the Beni in head is not good. Also Beni placement is not great. I do like the body conformation for a goshiki though

Thanks for responding, kevin32! In all honesty, I'm limited on space and if there isn't a chance of that beni cleaning up on the head then I would rather rehome her so the others growing out can benefit. I was shocked to see it become that messy and hoped it would improve over time

It looks like a she which is good. The body is nice but in serious critique the sumi in head is not good and the Beni is looking weak also. Nice fish but your in serious critique which is very high

I like the variety of goshiki from a lighter sumi to a very dark variety. The lighter Sumi does look very nice and most desirable.

I almost never comment on fish but I have a goshiki that I kept for several years and just from
that experience I'd say that when it starts to go down hill it does at a fast pace. Re-home while you can.

She does look good from the original picture
What makes to ground so dark? Quality concern?
I was advised to pick lighter ground so chance of female are higher

My growout thread shows its progression that might help:

      https://www.koiphen.com/forums/forumd...oshiki-Growout

He's deteriorated further since the 10/17. I don't have a recent pic but the black on the head
has spread and is now dominating. Just fwiw...

Thank you all for posting and sharing your critiques! It would've been one thing to have a little sumi peeking through the beni plates, but the beni or hi never seemed to be very deep even in the earlier pictures I posted. If you all were to critique her based solely on the quality of her beni, what would your thoughts be?

Steve, your growout thread was extremely insightful for me and I could see some of those signs that you noticed in this girl too. As of now, the plan is still to rehome her and now I feel a bit more confident in my decision to do so. Thanks again!

I’d say it still gamble with tosai
Higher quality probably at higher price point or kept for nisai
Buy 3 and hope for 1 make the list
