Thanks Cindy for doing this again
I bought my lotus seeds from ebay. Less than 50% success, maybe sanding too little.
Danny
I pulled my seeds out and peeled the shell off the dimpled end.
I had a floater and it felt spongey so I tossed it out.
I also put 2 of the seeds in a lithaqua basket that I have in my front basin to see if lithaqua would be a good substrate

Evidently I am going to have to be an "also ran" This is the only sign of life I have this morning...barely showing its little green butt

I guess I'm going to have to find something to move several of these guys into as they're growing out of the
jar. Time to get creative I think since outside high temps are still in the 40's.

Temps back down to 40s here. Mine are living inside for the foreseeable future.
Update
All 4 Nelumbo Nucifera have sprouted (number 5 shot off into oblivion when I was grinding it). From the Matherfish seeds 4 have sprouted and only 2 that have not. They may sprout as several just put out sprouts since last night.
Three seedlings are 4 to 5 inches long now.
How is your progress?
Nancy
I only started the pink ones, I love them they bloom first year and are invasive
All but one have sprouted for me but I'm afraid I'm lost as what to do now because of my air temps still being in the
40-50* range. I've transplanted 5 into a 5 gallon buckets but I've only got room for 3 buckets that will fit under the
grow lights so I'm hoping they won't have a fit when I have to transplant them again into larger single containers outdoors.
Several look like they want to unfurl leaves to be actual pads but none so far.
Thank you Sindee I got my second batch of seeds.....

Welcome.
Steve, I hope it warms up soon
I plan to keep my seedlings inside a while longer, but the sprouts are about 5 inches long and instead of floating pads the first leaf on the seedlings are continuing to grow above the surface of the water.
Matherfish suggests to transplant to original pot when seedling gets third leaf.
Do I need to put my seedlings in a container with deeper water than a quart jar until they get the 3 leaves?

Good questions for Frank
Leave the seedling where it is until you are ready to plant it, unless it gets a pad too big to get out of the jar. The more you move the seedling around, the greater the chance of injuring it. The pad growing above the water will set on the water once unfurled, and should be about the size of a quarter. If this happens, and still no third pad growing, go ahead and plant it.
Happy ponding!
I guess I should have left them in the quart jar.
All but one of mine have sprouted. I'm about ready to give up on the lone dud... 9 are more than enough for
me to try and figure out what I'm going to plant them all in. The resin barrel planters at HD are nice but at $20 ea
it could get expensive in a hurry. Do any of you with existing lotus have pictures of what your planters look like and
cheap options? I bought some 10 gallon totes but the grey color looks rather blah when I put them on the porch.
We're suppose to have several days around 65* and sunny so I put them out on the deck. The stems are LONG
with the leaf still curled up and I wonder if it's because the grow lights not bright enough inside. Maybe a few days
of the real thing will help.
